Highest level in skiing

I think that the highest level of skiing is to bring the newschool tricks out into the wild, instead of just confined in the park. What do all of u think?

I'm not quite sure what the highest level in skiing is. I guess there's the highest level in the park, and the highest level in slalom racing, the highest level in backcountry, etc. I do think that people should explore more areas than just the park, but I guess there isn't a defined 'highest level' in skiing.

I feel that the highest level of skiing is to push the envelope. When the first speed skier broke 150, that was the highest level. When Mosely won the Olympic gold with the first iron cross (now the NS trademark), that was the highest level. The first super-g skier to use a shorter, more dramatically shaped ski was on the higest level. What do these events have in common? They changed the face of skiing.

okay i am sorry but i don't agree with you gregg.

The absolute peak of performance in skiing is being able to ski an intermediate run perfectly. Everything else comes from just plain old skiing. No one discipline is the perfection of skiing, so therefor just plain old skiing down a not hyper-difficult run is the pinnacle of success.

my fravite kind of skiing is to ski the steep and deep with a few jumps in the middle of the run, so u can do tricks off it. That would be the perfect run for me. The powder has to be uncut also.

Absolute level of skiing: Being able to ski a big moutain and throwing some inverts off cliff, being able to ski in the glade and hit a rails as a transition to the park do some stylee technical tricks, go on the groomed trail and do all kinds of turn perfectly and while riding from super fast too super slow... this is the highest level of skiing...

but quebec that isn't a level, it is a combination of many different facets. The point of perfection in skiing is one certain thing that encompases a little from ever discipline.

If you think about it, just making a perfect turn has a little bit of everything in it.

I agree taht bringing newschool into backcountry skiing is a high level, but you have to incorporate it into your run. If you focus on hucking a backflip off a 60 foot cliff, the rest of the run isnt very clean. So you have to bring all your skills into play at the same time and make the run flow very well. Morrison and McConkey do good jobs of this.

Well yeti, how do you define a perfect turn?

To speak my mind, I've seen tons of guys at Sun Valley who ski 'perfect' turns down intermediate groomed runs all day, and I would hesitate severly to say that they are the highest level of skiing. I liked FsJon's original point, of combining disciplines all into one incredible style. For example, watching Seth Morrison ski a powder chute in AK as fast as a downhill racer, making perfect turns, and then hucking a lincoln off a cliff at the bottom. To me, that is the ideal, the highest level of skiing. But there is always more to come- ten years ago, who could have imagined anyone doing a 1440, or a d-spin?

take a look at McConkey and Morison and guys like that Plake even. Doesnt matter the guys who have been through it all the Styling 70s the Neon 80s and The Progrivess movement of the lates 90s into the new era of skiing.

yeah, glenn plake is pretty sweet too. He doesnt huck himself like Shane McConkey or morrison do though. those guys are insane...

Some one Asked my ski school director(A level 4 of 4) what a perfect turn would be. He just said that There is no perfect turn. You can only be perfectly in control. There are just too many elements that make up skiing so the 'perfect turn' is really just varying degrees of each element.
My English teacher said that he was 'A Theatre Queen'

i think the highest level of skiing is like what seth morrison is doing. he's probably the best skier out there, he does huge mountains, super deep powder, and does lincolns, backs and 3s off cliffs most of us wouldnt think of hitting. same with mcconkey and jp and mike d.

Speaking of cliffs - anyone out there got reccomendations on someone learning to drop cliffs? I've never had many chances to, but I've done a couple little ones (around ten feet).

i think its the higest level in skiing is different for everyone each person is entitled to their own opinion on what they think is the best but as long as your having fun wasnt that the whole point of sking was to have fun??? just my thoughts

Highest level for me is when i know Im pushing my level to the best and I know everyone around me is doing the same. And even if my trick/line is maybe not the hardest. fellow skiers still give me props for sticking it clean. That is the highest level.

highest level of skiing is skiing down the hill with a generator in in your backpack, completly naked, on a 75 degree pitch, doing rodeos off cliffs, while stciking you dick in a JACK LA LANE POWER JUICER. if you can do that your fucking god.
