maritime ski movie

who here would buy a ski movie based on maritime skiers in maritime ski environments?
i think it would be pretty dope if the locals here put together something worth watchin'

Cool man, I gotta see about getting a pair of skis for rails. I had to sell my old ones to buy the new ones. I might be getting a busted up pair of TMs, but then I need bindings.

Yes, come. The ledge is pretty cool, its rough though so don't bring your good skis. There is a big piece missing in the middle, but it shouldn't be a problem, because its only a small chunk from right in the middle. On one side, its a 6 or so foot drop, which is good, but on the other its like 20-25 so it would look really dope on film, some good shots for sure. The ledge is in point pleasent, I'm sure its still accessable.

I havn't noticed many good rails around halifax, too bad.

Just never let skiing in the east become a state when people won't throw down for the simple fact that a camera isn't around...

The problem with what the boyz at Mount A tried to do was that they had no idea and secondly, our hits are small and we all look like fruit bags throwin' down over them...

No one wants to see 180's over a 20 footer...no matter how many daffy's you throw with it...

that's why we have to film the whole Rossi air tour event, and the wednesday night sessions, just have the camera out, and don't care if he's looking at you or not, and arrange a video session or two at the hill. if we could do that, it'd be so sick.

Skiing just the parks in the east will never totally qualify what it takes to make a good fil. What others have failed in the past is throw every joe blow in their films. We need a film atht showcases some of our best riders (Rails, pipe, park, urban, and just skiing tight lines). Lifestyle is another major part of films, and new films will focus on the total rider...how they live, ski etc. Our parks have features in them that can quilify for major flicks but the cammera should be on when traveling to comps in the states or westward, or just plain old ski trips. This is what makes for a successfull fil. It doesn't cost that much bling because athletes are paid by their sponsors...not by the film company. Finally, we need someone who wants to film...i can copunt how many times we go to a park and just want to ski, and then everyone starts to argue about who's turn it is to film. If a film is going to make it there needs to be a Berman in the group. Someone who loves skiing, but willing to make some sacrifices to capture everything.

i think we can do a lot of work off piste at wentworth, i'm decent at that, plus tree skiing in the east is harder than any other place on the planet, the forests are so damn dense in some parts.

thing is about having a maritime film is that if the very first ones aren't taken seriously and don't receive proper support, than it will be difficult to get anyone interested in doing further films on the east coast because they'll figure we just don't have the dedication or the customer base. films would have to start small with locals being filmed to gain support on the east coast, and only after the films have a following would it be possible to have anyone from central or western canada look at the films. central and western canada are where the population base is, so their support is essential for films to be profitable (which is the goal of any movie maker no matter how you look at it). so without massive local support for past or early east coast movies, there will never be anyone suitable interested in producing further ones.

if there was a film put together, profit would not be the objective. the point to the movie is to have a real premier..like the snowboard movie created by jon burke.. the premeir would promote the idea of a local video to new people. the shops could then decide if they would want to sell any as well. the video quality would be taken very serious..and the people shooting video for it would have to have very good quality film and ski talent..i, personally have only two shoots in my entire life that would be video worthy..and yes were talkin maritime video..
so, the key is, we need ssome big shots and big seasons out of the skiers in the flic..

the eventual goal of video companies is to make a profit. at least the big name ones. so the initial ones have to show that there is potential to get the big ones out here. few companies are out there with the purpose of losing money.

there was a movie made by maritimers recently for the sole purpose of promoting the east coast, and from what i've seen, they didn't receive any support after the video came through.

If (big if) enough footage was aquired to make a movie, I don't think many people would pay to buy the movie. Even if it was sold at cost of tape/DVD + shipping. I think a free download would work better.

Or maybe just compile a few short vids (2 min or so) over the course of the season of specific riders, sessions, rails, etc, and toss them up on a website. That would be what I would like to see.

i wouldnt even bother trying to sell any of it at first. who would pay? instead, maybe post our vids somewhere, get 2track to put us in the friends section, or something like that, and definately submit it to solid powder. we gotta get recognized before we can even think of producing.

I'm getting pretty annoyed with this one. I've been around and we have a select...i repeat a select handfull of riders who have the skills and steeze to make a section worth selling.(this isn't puting our sceene down, every place even the meccas (whistler and mamoth) have a select few) I agree..I could care less about selling it but it could happen...even Berman barely makes any profit...e-mail him he'll tell you. It's simple, all we need is a film maker who knows their shit, and is willing to put the effort in and it can happen...will this happen? not sure

Your right John, I have almost 2 years of footage of local skiiers and riders, and some of the better ones around to say the least. Out of those 2 seasons filming there may be 2-3 minutes of quality footage. If something like this is going to happen we need quality footage from quality riders, not everyone can get quality footage.
