Truth Sucks

I hate Truth so much they keep on making these commercials to try to stop people from smoking. when they do so they give us facts like 'Big Tobaco spends millions to get kids hooked onto their cigarettes' I doubt thats true tobaco companies cant advertise on TV or on school property or anything, and buying cigs when your under 18 is not that easy. I dont ever get a Malboro add telling me that I should smoke yet I have some people telling me how mean the people who run tobaco companies are. they have a relatively recent add campaign where these people set up a stage in front of a tobaco building and then they screem out questions like 'why do you sell a product that kills your customers?' and then they show a stage where the people who should answer the question should be and its empty. if someone had come down and spoken on behalf of the tobaco company they wouldnt have been able to show them on TV because it would have been a pro-tabaco response.

I find this extremely unfair one side is allowed to bad mouth the other side and give information that they pulled out of their asses or changed to fit their needs yet the side that is being talked about is not aloud to defend themselves.

I guess what im trying to say is that tobaco companies are not to blame if someone smokes and dies because of smoking its not their fault. they sell a product for those who want to use it they know the risks its been beeten into them senslicely since a very young age and if they die the tobaco company is not to blame in the same way that gun companies are not responsible for murders

yeah like the commercial where they say that the taboacco company took that girls mom away from her, thats like saying that armada is to blame if someone dies on there skis cus you know theres a chance you could but that person still chooses to do it

of course its onesided. If Truth showed all the pros and cons instead of just the cons, and the Ciggerette compant showed all the pros and cons, instead of just pros (which there arnt that many that i can think of) it would be the oddest debate in the world. Truth puts out anti smoking campaings because the people who run that name feel strongly that smokeing is bad and harmful to the health of human beings. Ciggerette comapnies sell cigerettes to make a profit. One of those two things sounds evil... which one is it?
As an after though, maybe Truth has such a one sided argument because there is no good that can come from smokeing.

agreed. they look at cigarette company execs like they take cigarettes and shove them down young peoples throats. these people have nothing to do with the decisions of others, and instead of just looking for a cop out for their own stupid mistakes, peoples should take reponsibility for their own actions. its just societys way of putting the blame one someone else when they dont want to take it on their own. half of the anti-smoking shit is put on by tobacco companies, so its not their fault if people make the decision to smoke.

live and let live, and if you fuck your own life up, thats your problem.

I;m going to take the argument presented by others one step further. If someone commits suicide because someone else put them down a lot and made them feel belittled, whos fault is that? Often people do things that are bad for themselves, but not always by choice, if you have tried to stop smoking you'd know its very hard. People try it and become hooked. People get peer pressured at a young age and get hooked. People do it to feel accepted.

smoking is hurtful to your body, so is McDonalds, so is Alchohol so are plenty of things yet there arnt thousands of commercials daily telling me this and McDonalds is aloud to advertise for their stuff.

people choose to do things that are bad for their bodies and thats their decision so dont blame a company for selling a product that people know is dangerous/harmful yet choose to do it.

as for pulling facts out of their asses in one truth comercial I learned that tobaco lobyests fought (and won) for a law preventing tobaco to be listed as cause of death yet in another comercial afterwards they say that X many people die daily of tobaco so either they lied about the law (which I researched and they didnt) or they are assuming that everyperson who has smoked and dies of cancer died because of the smoking. and giving assumptions as facts is very wrong.

if someone came along and started saying how skiing is dangerous and kills and harms people (which it does) then they didnt allow any skiiers to talk in a positive way about their sport while some group defaces us you would be pissed. Im sure that even some people who dont ski would be outraged too. that would describe me I dont smoke but im outraged by what is going on.

you have a decent argument, but smoking is addictive and takes eyars off your life and can harm others indirectly. Second hand smoke is a huge problem. So smokers aern't only harming themselves

i will argue that mcdonalds(fast food) and alcohol are also addictive. there are alternatives to smoking, but you fast food can take just as much off your life as smoking can. imagine having a heartattack at 47 because you eat so much fast food, even if you aren't fat. it's just not healthy. alcohol is also not healthy. the key here is moderation. moderate eating of fast food has less harmful effects. blah blah blah i dunno anymore all i know is the truth commercials are stupid. i agree with that. but so are those fricking marijuana commercials!! 'you never forget the people you hurt when you were high' bullshit!!

I will argue that mcdonalds is not addicting, which is stated by the supreme court when those girls tried to argue it was and sue mickey Ds. Alcoholism is a form of addiction I guess and very harmful but not as prevailant. Alcoholism also requires a certain mindset. SMoking is just plain addictive

the thing that fucking pisses me off is when they have grand kids or kids of smokers that have died from lung cancer. And then the fucking kids are like 'big tobacco killed my father' like they fucking forced ciggarettes down his throat. Thats BULLSHIT he chose to smoke he could quit if he want to and if he couldnt quit he knew it was addicting before he started. Fuck those kids and FUCK TRUTH.

do kids have a choice about anything the parents do something? if parents want to blow their brains out your not going to go blame Smith and Wesson just because its tragic that these parents died because of their habits using their kids to make tobacco executives look like monsters is wrong.

its sad that some parents arnt responsible enough to take care of kids but thats still their fault and not tobacco's.

My mother smoked for I guess something around 7-10 years before I was born she stoped the day she was pregnant and hasnever smoked again since.

My above post was badly written and not easily understandable so I edited it a little:

do kids have a choice about anything the parents do? if parents want to blow their brains out your not going to go blame Smith and Wesson just because its tragic, are you? the fact that these kids are parentless because of their parents habits is tragic but it is not a good argument against tobacco companies, and making their executives look like monsters because of the parents is wrong.

its sad that some parents arnt responsible enough to take care of their kids but thats still their fault and not tobacco's.

My mother smoked for I guess something around 7-10 years before I was born she stoped the day she was pregnant and has never smoked again since.

the point is not who is doing more harm because I know that tobacco is doing harm but they are being attacked by all these companies and are not allowed to advertise or publicly retaliate to anything these tobacco smear campaigns say.

I wouldnt be bothered by this if either both pro and anti tobacco ads were not alowed on air or if both pro and anti tobacco ads were allowed on air. it would level out the playing field.

people always talk about fairness :we must be fair and such but alot of people dont think that big companies should get fair treatment.

that totally gets to me all thsese double standards such as:
Freedom of speech (unless you have some unpopular opinions) the whole point of freedom of speech is made to protect those who have unpopular opinions. If everybody agrees there is no need for free speech

you guys are missing the point of the commercials. the fact that cigarrettes are addicting is undisputed. no, mcdonalds is not addictive. cigarretes chemically react with your body giving you an addiction. junk food like mcdonalds is misinterpreted to be addicting because those without self control eat it all the time.

then you guys say they shouldn't blame the companies for it, because they aren't 'shoving them down their necks.' Though i believe this a little, you guys are missing the fact that many of the people dying of cancer have been addicted to cigarrettes for many years before people knew they were bad for them.

also, with the teen issue, many teens are stupid. actually they're not stupid, they're naive, because they are so caught up in the adolecent years and trying to find themselves. they may try cigarettes because they try to fit in. this can get them addicted, and once you get the addiction, and the body believes it needs something that bad, its very hard for the person to quit.

in summarization, food isn't addictive, cigarettes are. the fact that the companies selling them know they are is a crime in my book. because once they they get someone hooked like that, its what they want. THEY ARE MAKING MONEY OFF KILLING PEOPLE THAT ARE PHYSICALLY ADDICTED, bottom line.

So? It's not impossible to quit. If somebody really wanted to stop smoking, it's not like they can't physically stop. If people want to buy them, it's not the companies fault. I think it's rediculous how people get upset when tobacco companies advertize. What the fuck? Don't buy them if you don't want. Other people actually LIKE cigarettes. It's not like you try it once and you're hopelessly addicted dreading every second of it. Many people enjoy smoking cigarettes. How the hell is it right to deny them the right to smoke a cigarette?

^exactly. and then they'll complain about how they are dying and how they can't breathe! hey well guess what! it's your own fault nobody forced you to smoke! just like nobody forced all the fatties to eat mcdonalds. people are so stupid!!! it's just that some people have ABSOLUTELY NO SELF CONTROL! and that ultimately will lead to their own deaths. everyone knows the effects of cigarettes.. anyone who tries to argue and say they aren't that bad is an idiot. although a cigarette while i'm drunk is okay, only when i don't know what i'm doing :) I'd rather keep my lungs nice and healthy for the remainder of my time on earth. my liver on the other hand, well that's a different story

Ok, the people who are arguing for smokign and cigarette companies: do you smoke? If yes, why? Does it make you feel good? And if you don't smoke, then you must agree that smoking is bad for you. I understand that there are other things abd for you, but why not get rid of something that is completely useless. All smokign does is hurt the health care system and shorten lives. Drinking does not do as much damage to the health care system and does not watse as much money as smoking. Smoking is just pointless and a waste, why not try to get rid of it.

and when you are filling out for life insurance they ask you smoker or nonsmoker, they don't ask things like drinker non drinker or fast food eater non fast food eater. insurance goes up if you smoke haha

I dont smoke but I dont think that something should be gotten rid of because I dont like it. I dont like when people try to force their beleifs on me and I try to not force my beleifs or standards on other people. Im Heterosexual but I support gay marriage, I dont smoke yet I support the rights of smokers, im atheist but I think that if ou beleive in god thats great (as long as it doesnt affect others in a negative way).

yes I do. if it was legal all the deaths caused by dealers trying to smuggle it into the country would dissapear. anything that doesnt cause harm to those who do not want to be harmed by it should not be controlled by the government

it's been banned from public events in my home city like hoopfest and bloomsday. and washington is trying to ban smoking from basically any public place including bowling alleys and bars

go to a club or bar or a sporting event or something and there will be smoking. I do not want to be waiting for a bus in a crowded are and have someone beside me puff up, I hate breathing that shit in. It needs to be totally banend from everywhere except ones own home and even then, not if you have children or any non smokers in the household.

its been banned in most public places here.

personally I dont beleive in second hand smoke I mean people dying of lung cancer when they dont smoke could be tons of reasons:
1-they could be lying about not smoking for one,
2-They could be breathing in smog from cars. im sure theres alot more of that than smoking
3they could be breathing in any of the other thousands of fucked up things in our air.

t-man, you're an idiot, go read a bit, it'll help you out. Have you ever seen the lung of a person who smoked compared to someone who didn't? It is discgusting. Your lungs do not get that bad from inhaling smog. EVERYONE who smokes awhile gets extremely dirty lungs. Even second hand smoke lungs are gross, that is, if you live with someone who smokes. I personally don't want that garbage in my lungs, ever. Smoking is harmful. Your lungs don't recover if it has been long enough.
