TANNER HALL INTERVIEWED
By Ian Kirkpatrick, yesterday
Ian Kirkpatrick: All things considered, how you doin’?
Tanner Hall: Pretty good, man. Just chillin’ right now.
I.K: So what happened?
T.H: I just didn’t have enough speed. Started exactly where I did the time before but it was just too hot up there. 50-55 degrees up where we were. Our in-run was pretty fast that day and I guess it got a little slower on that run. I clipped the landing just a few inches short.
I.K: What now? How long are you out?
T.H: I’ll be fine, man. I’m only out for ten weeks, you know what I mean? I’m not out for a full year. It’s not even close to an injury like if I had a blown out knee. I’ll be back in two-and-a-half, three months so I’m not even worried whatsoever.
I.K: Good! So the smaller break was in the left foot?
T.H: Yeah, the left break was where I just cracked a little piece in my calcaneus outside part of your foot, right by the ankle. That’ll be ready to go in um, three and a half weeks now. Then the right one, I broke the same little piece off my calcaneus, then I broke a little bone where the talus pretty much the ankle part of the foot and calcaneus meet. That kinda just fuckin’ knocked one of the bones out to the side. When I get surgery, I’m not even getting pins or rods or anything. They’re just realigning my joints and my bones.
I.K: Once you get through those ten weeks, what’s your plan of attack?
T.H: I’m going to go straight to New Zealand and start skiing every day. I’ll miss this good springtime where you can learn a lot of new stuff but I’m just going be taking my springtime out in New Zealand next fall.
I.K: Did you learn anything from this?
T.H: Um… just always have the right speed on jumps over a hundred feet! I dunno, we got some really good stuff over that gap. I think it’s going to be really sweet for people to see what we got over it so it’s not that big of a loss.
I.K: Are you going to hang out at any of the events or help out with stuff like judging, kind of like Pep did last year?
T.H: I would love to but I’m going into surgery later this week. Just depending on how I feel, you know. If I feel good to go, I’ll go up there and hang out all day. But if not, I think I’ll just chill here on my couch.
I.K: Yo man, get better. We’re all behind ya here.
T.H: Right on, man. Thanks so much.
SKI FOR LIFE!
If it was easy it would be called snowboarding.
