cydwhitI mean, did you ever use one? They were so weird and you had to ski with the damn thing in your mouth, and then also have such a death grip on it with your teeth that as the most traumatic thing possible as a skier happened to you, you didn't let go. Folks get their pants pulled off by avalanches. Jackets get torn and gear gets broken. Imagine just a run-of-the-mill eject, would you be able to keep it in your mouth through that? Like, even if you just yelled "Oh crap!" which is the most logical thing possible to do when you're getting avalanched, that thing comes out of your mouth and does you no good. I'm glad we've moved the focus more to tech that keeps us from getting buried as opposed to tech that maybe in a perfect scenario would help us survive longer after we've been buried.
I get the idea, but man, in practice it wasn't practical and seemed more like it was an easy way to justify an upcharge on a pack.
I bought one a while ago cuz I'm terrified of tree wells which is where they have more practicality imo. The videos of their testing is insane and proves their potential. I use it as my ski backpack. There's plenty of stories of folks using them successfully in both situations but I agree it may be difficult to reach it if you don't have it in your mouth. It's incredibly difficult to get out of the zippered slot so if I'm in a sketch area I usually pop it out where I can reach it if need be. I was searching cuz mine is getting a bit worn out and I wanted a new color and smaller pack but guess not. Rocking an antique now I guess.
Edit: if you're in a tree we'll and can make an air pocket with your hands, you can certainly put a tube in your mouth.
