Pollard vs. Karma

If you have the extra money buy the pollards, they are much lighter, and a much more versitle ski. They do have as much buryness as the Karma, but they have enough to go into the pow. Oh and most, if not all of volk's twins are true twins. And with some skis ( las years V-expression) the tips is insanely high.

Enough what to go into powder? Karmas are 1mm wider at the waist and tip and a less centered mounting point... I wouldve thought the two would be more or less the same in pow, or the Karma would be a bit better. How is it not so?

That's all the input people have? I'm told the Karmas are pretty heavy... is that a major point against them, or do you really notice?

if i had the choice ebtween a 186cm pollard and 185 karma i would go with the pollard... im assuming there 2004/2005 with the new fatty edge and base.

1. better overall flex. I like a bit of a softer ski, espically if im using it in pow. i want to be able to turn smooth arch across that pow, not drive into it.
2. mounting point, im a fan of just behind center, the pollard will be lovely switch and since it's softer all that extra tail will make up for it not bieng as stff (so you have some stability landing those drops) and i tihnk it'll be a alot more lively and fun to jib around on in the backcountry.
3. With the new construction there a bit beefer, and hopefully up to par with a volkl ski, but the volkl are pretty fucking bombproof from what i have seen, felt and heard.
4. Its a core company.

If you want to straightline and go really really fast, and like stiff skis go karma

if you like softer skis, and want to butter cornices, and do switch stuff in the bc adventures go pollard.

and i have skied niether, so im basing my opinions on my personal preferences, what i have heard and read, and the ski dimensions, and materials they are built with.

^Many good points, thanks. I agree with the mounting point thing, also. I do think the Karma will hold up better, because it's built really solidly (and thus the extra weight), but with the new bases and edges, line is supposed to be pretty damn tough.

i ski the 177 karma, its a stiff ski and its not exactly the lightest thing on the block, but the tips arn't mellow, so you should be fine with thim in the pow. idk what kind of construction the ep's are but you don't have cap construction on the karma...bomb proof ski. plus it has sick grip tape like top sheet to make sure you stick the grab and hold them ski's

Ok, the lines are less wide, and the Karmas are wider. The eric pollards are just as tough if not tougher then the Karmas because of the micro block wood core. Plus they are an idependant ski compagny, make only skis, corporate congloms are not as good for the sport.

go with the pollards, they're loger so they will float, and line makes them with as they say: 'Fatty Base & Edge - Twice the thickness for twice the impact resistance.' The pollards are also lighter.

i think the pollards are a sick ski. i like the dimensions and the full twin and everything. that would have been my second choice after pistols.

I've got the Karma's and love um. They flot just fine in the pow and are totaly bomb proof. How ever they are stiff so if you don't like a stiff ski or are a park rat you should go with something else. Also they are full twins.

just get whatever ski has the biggest twin tip.. that seems to be all thats important to you

i have skied both and it depends what you want the karma skis better all mountain and carves better but is pretty stiff and heavy.
The pollard is softer and lighter and better in park and pipe.
Its a toss up in the pow both ski great.

I would go towards karma cus they will last better than the lines.

Shawnm is clearly a genius, he took 2 words in my original post and came to the conclusion that they were all I cared about. It takes an extraordinary amount of insight to be able to judge such things without any real evidence. I'm humbled.

No, the 'biggest twin tip' (by which I assume you mean tail height, because this doesn't make any sense) is not the most important thing. Actually as it's turned out, the deciding factors have been price, mounting point and weight. I went with the Pollards, because I got a lower price on them. Nice guess, though.

where u buying them as your all mountian ski?

i remember reading in the last Freeskier that they said out of all of the skis they get to try (which is basically all of them), if they had to pick one ski to do everything it would be the karma.

im looking into buying some pollard too though, i woulda went that way myself

both good skis....

i am partial to lines and am skiing the pollards right now. Grrrrreat ski.... so far they have been all over the east coast and in Utah with no problems.
