The 6th annual WORLD SKIING INVITATIONAL, Whistler’s ultimate party, will take place April 12 – 16, 2005. Featuring Slopestyle and Superpipe competitions, over $50,000 will be awarded to the skiers who throw down the biggest and smoothest tricks. Celebrating the progression of freeskiing, this is sure to be the best WSI yet!
2005 is a year of snow sports unity. In celebration of the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival’s 10th Anniversary, both the World Snowboarding Invitational and the World Skiing Invitational will take place simultaneously April 12 – 16. Skiers and snowboarders will take on Slopestyle and Superpipe competitions together throughout the week, with the finals for each competition running consecutively on the same day.

SLOPESTYLE - NEW for 2005!
You asked, and we’ve delivered. For the first time ever, the World Skiing Invitational will feature Slopestyle! Skiers will tackle the jumps, rails and boxes on the Slopestyle course at Blackcomb’s Terrain Park. The Qualifier starts off Wednesday, April 13, and the Finals are on Thursday, April 14.
Slopestyle Finals (Invitational)
20 men and 10 women will compete in the Slopestyle Finals. 13 men will be invited to the finals, with the remaining 7 spots being awarded to the top placers from the Slopestyle Qualifier.
Wall Ride - Stemming from the enormous popularity of the SuperHit competition comes the Wall Ride. Immediately following the Ski Slopestyle Finals, skiers will session for half an hour, voting for the skier who lays out the most impressive trick of the session. Winner takes all!
Slopestyle Qualifier
Open to the first 30 skiers to enter, this is a great chance for more skiers to come out and be a part of the event! The top 7 placing skiers in the Qualifier will advance to the Slopestyle Finals the following day to compete for the prize money and a chance at the podium.
You will be placed in the Qualifier on a first come, first serve basis. TO ENTER, complete the on-line Entry Form at: www.whistler2005.com, and select the World Skiing Invitational from the Events Menu. Entry fee is $60 (plus tax) and includes competition fees and an event gift. Discounted lift tickets will be available from the Athlete Centre. Payment is required to hold your spot in the Qualifier. Please submit your payment through the TWSSF E-Store.
SUPERPIPE
One of the most anticipated contests of the year! Freeskiing’s Superpipe elite will rule the Superpipe Finals for the one-hour jam session on Saturday, April 16. Held on Blackcomb’s infamous pipe, 20 men will be invited to compete in the Superpipe Finals. The men’s Finals will be rounded out by the top 10 skiers from the Superpipe Qualifier making a total field of 30 skiers.
For the women’s competition, 7 women will be invited to compete in Finals, with the top 3 from the women’s Qualifier making a total field of 10 skiers.
SUPERHIT - Immediately following the Superpipe Finals will be the skier-judged SuperHit contest where skiers give it all up for one BIG HIT and a BIG prize.
SUPERPIPE QUALIFIER
Skiers who do not receive an invitation from the Design Team can enter the Superpipe Qualifier on Friday, April 15. OPEN to the first 60 male skiers and the first 10 female skiers to enter, the Superpipe Qualifier provides an excellent opportunity for up & coming and under appreciated skiers to prove themselves and earn a spot in the Superpipe Finals.
You will be placed in the Qualifier on a first come, first serve basis. TO ENTER, complete the on-line Entry Form at: www.whistler2005.com, and select the World Skiing Invitational from the Events Menu. HOW TO GET INVITED:
TO SUBMIT AN INVITATION REQUEST FOR THE SUPERPIPE FINALS AND/OR THE SLOPESTYLE FINALS, VISIT THE EVENT WEB SITE: www.whistler2005.com and select the WORLD SKIING INVITATIONAL from the events menu. Complete the Request for Invitation / Entry Form form. All invitation requests will be reviewed by the Design Team.
The deadline for submitting entry requests is Thursday, March 10 and the Invitation Lists will be announced March 15 on the event web site: www.whistler2005.com
Invited skiers will be notified by email and/or phone.
The World Skiing Invitational is designed by a team of skiers and industry professionals, who also oversee the skier invitations. 2005 Design Team members include: Andrew Woods, Sarah Burke, Rex Thomas, Glen Mitterndorfer and Josh Loubek. The Design Team will invite skiers based on results from the season's most prestigious competitions including the X-Games and the US Freeskiing Open, past performances and achievements. Wildcard spots will also be available, giving emerging skiers an opportunity to compete alongside the pros.
Note: There is no deadline for entering the Superpipe Qualifier or the Slopestyle Qualifier. Space will be filled on a first come, first serve basis – so register NOW to ensure that you get in!
