I’ve never seen a movie quite like million dollar baby, I thought it was simply amazing. I’ll admit that a movie it has to be seen more than once to truly be able to evaluate it, but for first time viewing I can say it really blew me away… there are only a few movies that have truly moved me, however million dollar baby is one of them.
there are two things about this movie that are exceptional: 1. the dynamic of the character relationships – the develops steadily throughout the film, slowly introducing itself to the audience in the beginning and then with calculated precision, adding events that make the viewer care deeply for them. I wont give it away, but there is a situation towards the end that is absolutely magnificent. don’t think last minute plot twist gimmicks, because its not like that. this specific situation is notable because it itself is simple, however the effects that it has on the characters creates a wealth of dramatic complexities. 2. the theme: the human spirit. I know what you’re thinking: that’s the same old cheesy shit. but you’re wrong because this movie has done it better than any movie I’ve ever seen. this movies expression of the human spirit is more complex than just being a boxer, and its deeper than the will to live too, it’s about the spirit of being alive and life in its self. where so many movies have attempted this and failed, million dollar baby nails the shit out of it. clint eastwood has been able to articulate on film something that few have even been able to get the slightest taste of in their minds.
this movie will make you want to sit and stay through the credits just to think about it when its over…and you probably wont want to talk during the walk to the car or even during the drive home. I was even thinking about 4 hours later as I was going to sleep.
its too early to say, but with a few more trips to see this movie i could see it going on my favorites list.
