Line's New Binding

Alright what do you guys reckon about the new binding-technology from Line?? Having the one binding for 2/3 sets of skis will be great but that also means you can only buy line products. Also does anyone know how they ride?

I think the ski industry is fucking retard for not doing this a long time ago like the snowboard industry. Skiing still has alot to learn from snowboarding. Mounting inserts definitely aren't a new idea, but it is taking an innovative company like line to make it a reality.

skiing has alot to learn from snowboarding? bullshit, snowboarders need to learn how to make fucking turn instead of just scraping down every steep face, thus making them icy, gayness. The binding idea might fly but it seems like a hassle to switch them around.

phrosty, thats the biggest fuckin generalization, park skiers turn as well as park snowboarders, mtn skiers turn as well as mtn snowboarders. so shut it.

but as for the line binding, it is the best idea to come along in skiing in a while, i've seen the prototype and its fucking sick, it will take time to get perfected, but will be the shit.

skiing should have figured this one out a long time ago.

i'm with dirty. having to have a shop mount new bindings for you every time you get new skis sucks ass. being able to buy one binding and mount it on different skis will help the sport as well as people too cheap to be buying new bindings and paying for mounting (that money's better spent on booze)

i think its awsome, and its no doubt some other ski companies will follow along, but dont forget it isnt just that you can switch them from one ski to another, the whole release system is new, so it releases from the back and the front usin some 'pivogy' system. no more knee spains and breaks. i just hope they are durable cause line is gettin a bad rep for durability.

I don't know how true it is but this line rep i talked to said that u can have the binding mounted on other skis, but u would nead a shop to drill the holes or somethin.

You can't mount line bindings one to any ski right now, says so right on the line web site. The reason why the four hole pattern works is because line has a metal reenforcing plate under the binding to hold it there, if you mounted it on any other ski, the binding would rip out in no time. Apparently at some point line will make a special plate that can be bolted to the top of the ski then you'll be able to mount the binding on top of that.

I ordered skogans and new binding last month.

bullshit, about snowboarders turning as good as skiers, just watch and count how many snowboarders go on edge and just scrape down everytime theres a steep part on a run, I garantee you will count alot more snowboarders than skiers. they also need to learn to alternate in lift lines. then their piece of shit snowboards all bang up my skis because they have no respect/no control in the lines. its gay, I guess thats why they call it gayboarding.

these bindings will be great. As long as you have new line skis you can switch them from ski to ski rather quickly. as long as they hold up they will be a good binding.

i just ordered some skis and the new bindings from line a few weeks ago and im supposed to get them in a few more weeks ill let yall know how they work...the lady i talked to said that they might not even be ready for release this year and might only have pros test them out

1.Phrosty you are an idiot

2.It all maybe well and good to have inter-changeable bindings. But it has been pointed out that your need to specifically have the Line skis. Now i'm not sure what everyone skis out there but Last season i bought a pair of Candides and white 1080s. And to be honest if this binding were the best thing to happen to skiing since the 'sidecut' i won't be getting them or the Line skis in the near future just because it would mean having to get rid of two sick pairs of skis !!

3.Phrosty you suck get over the whole snowboarder turning thing. They don't complain about us skiers carving. And once upon a time you were the little kid dressed up in a one piece ski suit snow-ploughing down the middle of the ski run getting in everyone's way

its just coming from skiboarding. why would u want these bindings, to switch from line twintip to line twin tip? the binding will make the ski softer because of the closer mounting holes, thus making lines even shittier. i dont know too many people that have more than 2 pairs of skis, and chances are if they can afford 3+ pairs of skis they can afford to buy real bindings and have them mounted on.

one thing everyone is forgetting is ski companies want you to buy new binding with every ski so they can make more money. i bet the other ski companies are pissed about this binding

Actually i'd say if anything the closer pattern will help to eliminate the flat spot in the ski, similar to salomon's pilot system.

Another company who has bindings specifically for their ski is atomic. I think you can only mount atomic bindings to atomic skis because of a special mounting plate that's build onto the ski.

okay everyone i heard that line will be producing an adapter plater so you can mount on other skis, as for the the guy who said that switching bindings would be a hassle, earning $200 for new bindings is a real hassle

its not like it really matters that you can only use a line ski with the binding. salomon, atomic, volkl have thought about this marketing strategy ages ago and we can see that theyve put it into effect; with the salomon 'pilot' system etc.
so i reckon its a major step forward in ski technology and i hope to see some other companies doing it as well

I have seen the binding portotypes in person. They are just like the Look pivot binding, except the toe pivots as well, and it has a big steel plate that keeps it all one unit. The thing i see is weight. This thing is gonna be much heavier than conventional bindings. On a Line ski it may not be too bad, considering how light they are. The adapter plate is going to add rise (which could suck if you land a little off and your edges catch) and it will add more weight. Imagine some rossi bandit XXX, a fairly heavy ski, with a mounting plate,and on top of that a binding plate that the binding is attached to. Lots of extra weight.

Ski companies have not moved to the replaceable binding because of flex reasons. Under the boot the ski doesnt move. Salomon tried to change this with their flexible boots and pilot system, but it is just too soft for an advanced to expert skier. (discluding the crosmax ski used for skiercross). Line says that with the small mounting area, it will make the ski flex better, allowing more of the ski's surface to flex. in short, it makes already too soft of skis (line) softer. This is great in the park, if you are like 5' tall and weigh 80 pounds! Imagine sombody like philou, or one of the schrabbs, the ski would noodle to shit and not be stable.

Like it has been said earlier in this thread, only time will tell. Im interested to see if my theorys are correct, or way off. Either way, Line will be pushing the sport, and trying new things hoping to make skiing better, and for that i give them mad props!

you have to remeber that the point of the binding wasnt for it to mounted from ski to ski, but for safety, the actuall binding system is what the industry is lookin at, i mean it pivots front and back, may not seem like much, but now you wont kink ur leg when u mess up fakie, or on a rail, or really anywhere. the ski changing is just a perk. i just hope they dont realease when u dont want them too. and i had a chance to see a prototype, it looked cool, but i didnt get to touch it to see its weight.

The line binding is sweet and if its gonna stop injury you can go that much bigger without getting hurt. The switching thing is great but it sucks that other skis won't have it. Ohter companies will probably add the holes into their twintips. We'll just have to wait and see.
