i'm looking to get a camera (or two) for filming and photos. i like the gritty/grainy dadcam footy style but would also like to be able to produce high definition/quality footage and shots. outside of skiing and the environment that comes with it, a lot of my filming takes place at night in salt water environments with gnarly weather conditions, so i'd like something that i would be able to find weatherproof housings for and possibly those attachable LED lights i have seen people use while filming at night.
here are the answers to the questions from the stickied thread -
1) budget - ~$850, give or take
2) experience with cameras - mostly done all my filming on gopros, used a couple of friends' DSLR cameras before, but never owned one
3) current gear - just a couple gopros and a couple mounts
4) planned uses - in addition to shooting skiing, I am planning to make short films/edits with footage from commercial fishing in the bering sea and all around alaska, as well as all kinds of random b-roll. I have one video on my profile that is a low quality example of what i'm going for, just threw together some gopro and phone clips from the past year
5) I usually do most of the filming, but I would like to be able to hand it to my friends (i trust they are capable of handling it)
6) when filming skiiing i usually prefer follow cams
7) I currently have a mackbook pro that is a few years old, not sure on any of its specific info
8) every edit i've made has been on imovie or with the clips app on an iphone... had a torrented version of final cut a while back but didn't get much use out of it
---------------------------Optional Section, for those seeking a more intensive upgrade/purchase------------------------
1) I would consider using a DSLR
2) I do not have any knowledge about HDSLRs
3) I do not know the limitations of using HDSLRs
4) I am willing to take the time to learn how to shoot on DSLRs and use manual lenses
5) I do most of the filming but would like to be able to pass it to my friends every now and then
