ON3P dilemma

ON3P makes amazing skis. Period. Durable, usable, fun, stable...etc. and when you buy a pair of skis from them you get the pride of having a pair of skis that came from a down home start up company that manufactures skis by hand in the US. How could it get any better...well...

Has anyone else been having ON3P skis kinda lose their magic for them? It seems like ON3P isn’t a cool brand that only the die hards ride anymore. I’m not bashing the company. Amazing company and Scott is such a rad person. But it seems like the consumer base has changed and it’s made ON3Ps less of a die hard radical ski and more of a Nike hype beast Chad ski. As someone once put it, they’re the official ski of I suck but my gear doesn’t.

Again it doesn’t change what the ski and the company are, but to me it’s changing what they mean. What do y’all think?

Ultimately, skis are for one thing: to ski around the mountain and having fun. The only thing that matters is how the skis themselves behave. It doesn't really matter who built them. It doesn't really matter who rides them. The main reason I would buy another pair of ON3Ps has nothing to do with other people or the state of skiing, it is because I believe the ski itself to be high quality and complimentary to how I ride. Not because some guy Mr Mango rides them really well or because they're made by hand domestically. Those are cool extras, but shouldn't have any impact on getting the skis. If Volkl or K2 made the exact same performing ski, I would probably get it regardless of the fact a lot of comp jocks ride other Volkls or K2s.
Basically what I'm saying is let your own riding dictate your decisions on gear, not the style of other people 😜

Scott addressed this already, he's planning a purge of their customer base. those deemed unfit for the company's image will be offered a buyback option, but if they refuse, ON3P will show up in a van with guns and repossess the skis by force

SUPER controversial plan of course, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do, i guess

I think it's almost a good thing, part of the hype of getting something from a startup or small brand is helping them grow. Seeing their skis more often means that it's working and they're growing as a brand which I love to see since they make skis that I love to ride and is run by some cool people.

Hahahaha I knew someone would say this. I could definitely get a pair if I wanted them.

I guess I don’t have a problem with it. I am just reluctant to buy a pair because I don’t want to join the hype train. But I do want good skis.

The difference between this hype train and every new Englander suddenly becoming a Tampa bay buccaneers fan is that this is actually worth the hype. The skis are fucking insane. I just got my first pair and I’m unbelievably stoked to own them

First off I wasmt around NS when on3p started but kudos to Scott for growing it so, wish I’d been a part.

Obviously his company has grown from known only by core skiers to mainstream , that’s good for him , his company and you core On3p guys, and ya should be proud for supporting him from startup to here, since the company has grown it should be better suited for serving its customers.

Ma only wish was the continuation of 190+ skis, but there are other companies to fill that void, but my quivers full and I haven’t any need unless they make a 130+ full rocker pow ski in the future

Sure we all want ON3P to be back to the point where whenever you’d see those Neon bases you’d stare, but it would be selfish for us to wish he wasn’t selling more skis. Also as I think someone else mentioned here. ON3P is one of the companies that is living proof that you can still bust into the ski scene as a non corporate run company. Also every person I’ve ever talked to that owns ON3Ps may not have been the best skier, but they love to ski and they love the skis they’re skiing on. Why would we try to take that away from people?

Maybe this is a west-coast/CO thing because on the East Coast I still only see a handful of ON3Ps a year and when I do see them, they're being ridden by dudes that rip.

Yes. Same. Anyone I've seen riding them have been in the park and they're usually the best ones out there. Only seen one other person EC on the mountain and they slayed.

The growth of a company who has repeatedly and religiously demonstrated their loyalty to their customers, the quality of the product, and the funding of timeless art pieces for us to enjoy for free (movies, videos, etc) is in no way a bad thing. The idea that someone else doing literally the same activity as you is less cool because of their appearance or skill level is absolutely wild. It's no different than the 12 year olds at my local skate park making fun of each-other for the brand of scooter they ride.

Yeahhh I’m out west and this is pretty much true. Don’t see many pairs of on3ps on an average day and when I do they they’re decent riders. I don’t own on3ps but one of my best friends owns kartels. Just like my moments, you can tell just by holding them that the ski is built and designed extremely well. Just feels like a premium product. Can’t say I really understand this thread...

Billygoat is probably the most highly rated/recommended ski on TGR.

Late but I think it's just that the novelty of on3p as a company has worn off bc they are now an established force in the industry with a very strong foundation.

But to me all the new developments they have made recently are sick and still novel, the Mango and Hackel pro editions are super interesting to me and I love their custom ski system

please take a step back and ask yourself if they’ve actually changed as a company or if you’re just upset that you’re no longer a special flower for riding them.


their team over the year has boomed and grown into one of my favorites in all of skiing. Their graphics don’t ever disappoint, the ski durability is still there, the shapes have only improved. Have they changed? Yes. For the better? You betcha

maybe its cause i ride a smaller mountian on the east coast so I dont see people with on3ps very often but i still feel like the coolest since sliced bread with those green bases. And thats not counting how fun the skis actually are.

I ride on3p and admittedly fall into the "my gear is better than my skiing" catagory. I love them. I try to buy north american built products if it is a sizable portion. I also keep skis for a 4+ years so durabilty mattered. I liked how on3p supports the sport. My interaction with the company throughout the purchase was outstanding. Sure I can't slide rails and any spin 3 or higher is ugly as all get out but I love the skis. Sorry for ruining the image.

This is why i've considered getting a pair of on3p customs just all black with no branding. I hate labels and branding and all that shit to the point I actually use a seam ripper to remove the labels from all my gear, or in some cases I take a sharpie and try to black labels out.

On3ps are the most durable skis on the market by a mile. I don’t think they’re going to “lose hype” or “be not cool anymore” anytime soon.

What does ON3P stand for?
Founder Scott Andrus starting working on ON3P as a sophomore at the University of Puget Sound. The idea was born at his house located at N. 13th and Proctor in Tacoma, WA. The name came from one-three-proctor with the (e) on the one removed: ON3P. Yes, we know it’s confusing. When the ski building idea was born, ON3P was just about building skis for friends, rather than being a full-fledged company.
