RaarlDispersed camping on the east side of Glacier is surprisingly tough. You might get away with finding a random spot in the foothills on the Blackfeet Reservation, but it would definitely not be legit, especially this year. Otherwise there’s a road that goes south into National Forest land from near Marias Pass. Not super familiar with Sandpoint but I know there’s plenty of National Forest land to disappear into up that way.

safarisamThat said, NF land in my go-to, plenty of roads have pull off I camp at. I have onX if you need to look up public land access in MT, would be happy to send you my login to use. My roommate has onX offroad and I can hook that up too.

JpurdHonestly might take you up on that. How much is a membership?
safarisamI have the state specific, not nationwide so it’s only $30 a year.
JpurdGotcha that's still not bad. Yeah if you are open to it, I'd happily toss you some beer money to check it out
BraybladeLook for the Grouse Creek Campground in Sandpoint. Its free camping and open year round as far as I know. Super neat little spot and only 30min outside town.
JpurdThanks all for the tips. Got it pretty much figured out for both locations. I am planning on doing some kayaking when I'm in Sandpoint (October3/4). Might even float the Pack river for a few miles - if anyone wants to join, having two cars would certainly make it easier. Happy to meet up and have a good ol time.
On that same point, going to be hiking in Glacier on October 5 so if anyone wants to meet up and do a longer day hike I'll be around. Trying to not go alone

gravelIt is still quite safe to hike alone in grizzly country. Every minute or couple just give a big holler to let animals know you’re coming. Carry bear spray for safety but you won’t end up in a situation where you’ll need to use it if you’re good at shouting.
JpurdThanks that's good to know. I also plan on wearing bear bells - I'd assume that's relatively common?
safarisamI mean, all the power to you, but I stick with just bear spray. Bear bells are kinda annoying. They're common for folks not form griz country. Or maybe that's just in my circle?

JpurdI trust you folks living up there far more than myself. The idea of getting stuck with a bear just scares the shit out of me
