Day makers vs. a/t bindings

If you're looking to tour a lot, skip the dukes or the daymakers tbh. Or try the dukes, and then when you realize you want something lighter with a lower stack height and a better toe pivot buy a quality pin binding or cast system.


And as always, take avvy classes, train with your beacon and make sure you have the right gear. The backcountry is gonna be fuckin wild this year for all the wrong reasons

Got my avy gear and I’ve taken some classes, but you are right the backcountry is going to be nuts so I’m trying to be careful. I get that both bindings are on the heavier side for touring, especially when compared with true tech bindings, but I’m looking for something super solid on the way down

if you've already got pivots go with the cast. Same price as the daymakers, way less shit to put in your pack, lighter, tours better, and doesn't compromise your resort set up in any way. 10/10 big fan, would recommend.

+1 for CAST, the only caveat is you need boots with pin tech insert (at minimum on the toe), which you do not with the duke/frame or daymaker. But yeah if you have already P18 and insert on your boots it's a no brainer, CAST is the answer.

since you have pivots just get a cast system, daymakers are a pain without a somewhat spacious backpack. Also reminder, modern tech toes can be skied hard, seen kingpins, rotation 10s and tectons that have been used to stomp cliffs 10-25’, although big sends in the BC should only be done with a very solid crew or a free heli flight.

Ditto to all the CAST recommendations, provided you have boots with tech toe fittings (or you can add them to alpine boots for $200). But if the boot compatibility isn't an issue, I think that's your best option from both a performance and cost perspective since you already have Pivots. CAST is also currently doing pre-sale for slightly less than what they're normally priced.

Personally, I prefer Daymakers to frame bindings, but there are lots of factors to consider (I went into more detail here). They're also coming out with an updated version (I think this Tuesday, oddly enough), and the rumors I've heard make the new version seem even more appealing.

I love using a variety of different tech bindings for my dedicated touring skis, but I wouldn't use any of them on a ski that I plan to ski in the resort very often.

If youre dropping bomnbs, the heirarchy is:

Frame bindings < Daymakers < Cast

no questions.



If youre doing long tours just to cruise down and take it easy... get a full tech setup

Tbh both are pretty much the same in terms of performance and weight. I used day makers so I could go back down on my FKS’s cause I just don’t trust pins or anything on my binding that moves.

If you mostly ride lifts get daymakers. sounds like a pair of skis you want to ski when you aren’t touring. Markers frame binders kinda suck on the way up and I have had them randomly break off the ski on the way down. I have no problems with the daymakers on the way up and I can tour with different skis and take out my old ones when it is rock season

Big plus to daymakers is the any ski thing, used em when I got my enforcers with demos (holy shit that sucked) before I got kingpins but also could tour up to Millie tubes at Brighton post closure on my park skis, had some extra shitty skins to cut down too though.
