I’ll take that easy money. No court can prove he intended to kill anyone - if he had, Gaige would be dead; not missing an arm. All they need is reasonable doubt he didn’t go there with the intent to kill anyone (he was protecting a gas station until he was attacked) and he gets off of the first degree. Pretty simple.

.MASSHOLE.That's the first video but, at least to my eyes, Rittenhouse is already running. I want to know why he is running. Did he say something? Did he do something threatening? Or was it wrong place and wrong time? If he did something/said something threatening to people, it's an understandable (not saying it's the correct one) reaction to chase after him. The protesters are already hesitant to trust the police, especially after they've seen them supporting these vigilantes, so it'd make sense (again, not saying it's right) they would want to handle it themselves.
Either way, people died. A 17 year old kid should never have been playing vigilante in the first place. He was in a high stress and tense situation and he was not even remotely prepared for it.
I actually watched this unfold live in a livestream which was pretty fucked to watch in real time. The militia were at the gas station and had the mob mingling among them and yelling at them. At one point a group of rioters tried to push a burning dumpster into the Militia.
I am not sure why Kyle got separated but one of the live-streamers mentioned someone got hit and his phone knocked out of his hand for filming the people smashing the cars. There were reports of a gunshot during that time too but I cant find any evidence of it.
IMO the Militia really did a bad job managing the situation. They didnt set up any kind of perimeter or keep the rioters from walking right up to them. The first guy shot in the head was right in their faces yelling, "SHOOT ME N****R!" a bunch and grabbing at them. There were more than a few moments it really seemed like shit would pop off at the gas station. My guess is Kyle heard or saw something and went to check it out (About 1/2 block away from the gas station) where he started running. With all the chaos, the other Militia probably didnt even realize he was missing.
Kyle did what he had to to defend himself but a lot of people including himself made bad decisions to make the situation happen in the first place.

As soon as I heard the prosecutor's opening statement I knew their case was going to be a clown show. The first guy that got shot yelling "Shoot me N****R!" at a BLM rally is not necessarily a good look in a courtroom as well.

Did he act in self defense? Absolutely.
He retreated. He tried to escape and only after he tripped and fell did he fire upon his pursuants who were inches from him at that point. One of which was wielding a skateboard as a weapon. Another had a pistol. And for those who have never taken care of an assault victim, you can certainly kill someone from punching or kicking them, especially if you have multiple attackers. This ain't the movies. You don't just get back up after being beat to a pulp- you die. He likely woulda been severely injured had they caught him and initiated an assault. His defensive actions are justified. The case is about the incident, nothing else. Not why he was there.

Yeah. I'm sure the muddiest part of this whole case is the proportional response. Didn't used to but now I'm more on the side of it was proportional. Doesn't take much for someone to be beaten to death. Kid is still an idiot. I have to wonder how his driving there and putting himself in the position will be used by the prosecution.
Obviously, this isn't a 1 to 1 comparison, and I'm not a lawyer, but in a scenario where two guys are in a fistfight and you run over to try and break it up...and you get punched...can you claim self-defense in that scenario? You weren't the one instigating but you also didn't take any steps to avoid conflict either. So I'd imagine the defense could make an argument that by putting himself in that situation willingly, by either driving there or patrolling/larping around, he wasn't entirely in the right when it comes to self-defense?

The irony is far more people almost died that night. The militia at the gas station had no fuck all idea of what they were doing and didnt set up any kind of perimeter. There were literally dudes with AR-15s in close quarters yelling and shoving with rioters who were all mingled among them. At least 4-5 times shit almost popped off at the gas station and that chaos is what let Kyle wander off on his own which was stupid in his own right. Kyle is innocent IMO but there were so many bad calls by a lot of people that contributed to this.

And the answer is that they were asked to come there by the business owners in Kenosha. So a more accurate analogy would be breaking up a fist fight in which one of those people is calling out for help. And I think it is a little more clear who is in the right in that case.

Is he wrong though? New roads/highways historically displace more people in low income areas which also happen to house a large population of minorities.
