Tnskigoing for a week or so and just need sime ideas, so far my list consists of pancake mix, butter sugar, flour ,shortening,raisins/peanuts
iFlipI actually really hope your "list" is just a joke/troll.
yungonathe dehydrated food from mountain house is fucking garbage. i have never tasted anything worse
BiffbarfSay it to my FACE nerd
yungonaits terrible!!! bitch!!! 😳 but seriously im not sure if all of them are bad but the breakfast skillet one is dogshit.
yungonaalso sidenote the dehydrated stuff does not make for good outdoor shits
vibecheckPop tarts, oreos, cheerios, diet Pepsi, bbq chips, baguette, Kraft cheese, kool aid
abar.Dehydrated food is wack
SnowshoeThompsonback country Kitchen dehydrated pad thai, red beans and rice and curry are all pretty good comparatively. Once you start getting into dehydrated meat shit gets gross. Way better to have a light bag than to have to eat bland food. Get a good water filter if you don’t have one.
TnskiI don't filter , never had issues in tge wa cascades but e wa. And tge Olympics I wished I had .
BiffbarfBruh you should def filter
CeleryGood to go is a great company that makes some dehydrated food that absolutely slaps, especially the pad thai and thai curry

TnskiI did for a while but it rolled into a lake and disappeared into the silt and drank the water anyway, i figure its like tge Coronavirus, you get sick once and are immune from then on.
TnskiI'll remember that tip but planning on leaving Sunday so no time to order online.
Here's were I'm at si far, all this is 7.5lbs plus I stick of butter and some beef jerky and whatevelse.
zoinkedgranola and oats with some peanut butter is quick and eassy

paige.I can't justify the cost of mountain house and the like, but Knorr Sidekicks and some TVP or an envelope of tuna achieves almost the same purpose at a fraction of the cost. Last time I grocery shopped they were on sale at 4 for $5CAD.
flavourtowntap ur local asian market and buy the wildest ramen flavours you can find, keeps meals interesting and ur not paying 10 dollars for a pouch of some times good food.
tried black garlic and artifical pork last time and it it was really good
TnskiWord! There are so many possibilities at at asian market, alot of bazzare dried stuff with endless possibilities.
Trumpkin2020Dehydrated meals ain't that bad especially when you're toast from hiking all day with a heavy pack on your back. Biggest problem I've had is they're not that space saving if you have to use a bear canister. Dehydrated breakfast skillets are sooooo good in the am versus oatmeal.
You will never be immune to giardia lmao, not to mention possible norovirus, e coli, etc.
Have you counted how much calories you're bringing for each day? Are you planning on catching some of your food? Is that almost a guarantee that you won't come up emptyhanded? How many miles are you doing each day? How heavy is your pack right now?
All those nuts are great for greasy poops at least whenever I eat a shit ton of peanuts. If you're really looking for extra stuff you can get from your grocery store: ramen, tortillas, peanut butter, tuna packs, mayo packets from restaurants, hot sauce packets, oatmeal and granola clusters, dehydrated milk for extra calories, mac n cheese, pasta (you can dehydrate sauce at home super easy), rice, tea, crushed doritos.
Edit: whelp just saw ur leaving today lol. Good luck

TnskiCorrection:
I drank out of this tadpole infested creek last week with no issues
I feel water filtering is wise but if the waters cold I feel its safe, if its not cold I just leave my water bottle in the sun for awhile
Trumpkin2020I stand corrected. Interesting. So what did you end up eating? Was this more of pack in, stay for few days and then pack out? Or did you move each day?

BiffbarfI'm not a die hard backpacker or anything but the couple times I've been mountainhouses and a jetboil were super clutch. Shit's delicious. They're not cheap tho
graveltemperature doesn't affect the purity, you still need to filter it. bacteria are crazy with the extremes they can live. sometimes if i cross a small spring stream i will trust it enough to drink without purifying, but any standing or slow-moving water like the looks of that picture i'll filter. the upside of getting giardia, though, is that you typically develop an immunity to that strain of giardia. so you can drink more impure water in the future supposedly without getting sick.
extravertDehydrated: Mountain House beef stroganoff, pasta primavera, lasagna with meat sauce, and biscuits with gravy are the only ones I can stomach
'real' food: Ramen packets, box mac n cheese, little pesto container and pasta, cured meats, gnocchi, oatmeal, hard cheese
When I'm backpacking I'm usually too tired to cook properly but looks like you enjoy gathering hucks and making from scratch. Props.
