I wouldn't worry about it, golf is incredibly easy

It’s the simplest sport there is. It’s mostly about strength. If you’re strong enough to hit the golf ball a good distance you’re all set.

Start drinking early.

1.Bring lots of booze.
2. everyone first starting golf is terrible so don't let that turn u away.
3. Don't drive on the green.
4. replace divots.
5. Have fun.

i play 3 times a week, its addicting once you start getting ur swing down.

Can't tell if you guys are joking lol. Golf is difficult to learn and insanely difficult to master. Learning a great swing alone takes over a year.

Some tips:
-Don't swing too hard. It's better to be slow and controlled, because if you try to whip it you'll lose control of the club face and scuff it into oblivion.
-When you're on the green (the lighter, smoother grass around the hole), try not to walk in front of people's balls relative to the hole. It's kind of bad etiquette—it's like you're stepping on their "line" if you will.
-If there are other people about to swing, especially on drives, stop your cart and be quiet until they do. Just a courtesy thing.
-Don't rush! Take practice swings, and relax. You can recover from a bad swing, but not from a bad state of mind.

But for real, don’t talk in someone’s backswing, don’t walk in front of someone’s line when putting, don’t drive the golf cart like an asshole. As a first timer don’t worry about strokes, take as many mulligans as you want. Call “fore” (left or right) if you hit into opposing fairways. Bring booze/weed. Bring lots of golf balls (you can grab tons of used balls for cheap on amazon or at Walmart). If you’re playing for fun don’t be that asshole who gets all mad if they hit bad shots and ruin everyone else’s fun. And have fun, golf is an amazing game.

i'd say just hit the driving range beforehand to get your swing practiced a little bit. i'm no golfer but any time i go to the driving range, by the time i leave i have a decent swing going

don't try to whack the hell out of the ball, concentrate on your technique

keep your eye on the ball through your swing, don't look up as the club approaches the ball. you can look up to follow it once you see a tee with no ball on it

Figured you would advise against getting hit in the head. Will be sure to grab plenty of cheap balls and drink enough to stay well lubricated.

Dont overthink it haha, thats what fucks me up everytime i go out to play. Im a greenskeeper myself and spend all summers taking care of courses but get out every now and then when the feelings right. One thing I learned thats helped is course management, meaning breaking your shots down into sections. Like whats gonna be the best way to get this ball where I want it.

Honestly focus on making good clubface contact. Everything else will kinda fall into place but honestly, just work on getting the ball off the clubface. You dont have to hack and slash down at it and throw your shoulders out. I was getting too confused on what the proper swing is/was instead of just worrying about getting the ball from point A to B, and whats the best way to do that.


Pacing should be chill, dont rush but let other groups play through if yours is taking too long. Take like maybe 4-5 minutes looking for lost balls and just take a balldrop if you cant find it (Bring lots of balls!). Its just courteous, you dont wanna be fucking around on the fairways/greens too much because people willl get pissed and just start launching hellacious seeds towards you from the teebox. And you might get chirped. Golfers are an interesting bunch. Some cool, some total hardos like skiing. Marshals, depending on the course, can be dicks or chill, so just behave somewhat out there too. People have been kicked off of courses for all sorts of shit.

Try and do some match play or 4-man scramble types of rounds with best ball, meaning best ball in-play is where you and your buddy are gonna hit from and same goes for the rest of the group. It gets really fun honestly. You dont realize it until you're out there.

Oh and yeah, fill those damn divots! People think thats our job day-in/out and dont even bother filling theirs up when in reality, we're far too busy taking care of the turf in other ways or cleaning up stuff/fixing irrigation, fixing equipment, etc. to be out there everyday, especially right now, to fill up other peoples divots. Courses send someone out every now and then when its not busy but its just a dick move in general not to fill those divots or push down some chunks you took out of the turf.

NEVER EVER EVER CHIP ON THE GREEN. Its a cardinal sin and yeah the superintendent or maintenance guy working near you might kill you for real. I kinda told a group off earlier this summer for doing that and also for driving on a new teebox that was being built.....Dont park your shit on the teebox either. Watch yourself with how you navigate the course with your cart in terms of hills, wetspots, etc. Spinning out fucks the grass up.

I would go to the driving range and practice hitting the ball before you play around. What you are doing is basically skateboarding for the first time in your life at the skatepark. Waste of time IMO unless you just plan to get hammered and ride in the cart.

Got a tee time for Saturday afternoon. Will definatly keep some tips in mind. I admittedly googled what divots are. I'll let you know how it goes. This should be fun.

Who in here has their handicap calculated? I was a 18.5 last year so basically a bogey golfer. Roughly the same this year but because of Covid have played a lot less golf.

Shot gun beers, fill your divots, don’t walk in front of people’s ball on the green and use a glove if you don’t swing clubs often. Blisters can get pretty gnar if your hands aren’t accustomed to swinging clubs

My Handicap index is a 7.1 right now.

Always been a shit golfer, but played my senior year. As someone new to golf I feel like you improve quick.

The biggest thing that helped me to get past the begginers block of topping the ball and having it go all over the place was being told to let the face of the club do the work, and to not try to swing the club like it's just a bat. As long as you have a solid swing the ball will do what you want, you don't want to try and do all the work that the club is there to do.

Also, look at the ball and don't be one of those guys who takes 10 minutes to tee off.

Alright, I did better than I expected. Shot a 124 on 18. Even got a drive to land on the green on a par 3. I see why people like golf, I'd go again.

Golf is challenging, it can help to take a lesson or 2

Watch the old people. When I was a kid I remember trying to crush every ball. When it clicks thats sweet but how you stirke the ball is everything. You can seing hard as fuck but if you make shitty contact it's not gonna be good. There are old people that probably couldn't climb a stairset that hit it pretty good. It won't go as far as if they cranked it but its, consistent, and theyre in the fairway while you're knocking squirrels out of trees. Beverages is always beer never liquor for me. Ive brought a flask a few times though. Usually a mellow pale ale. I like them and if they get a little warm or sloshed around in the cart theyre still good. Good day drinking still.

Ettiquette. Let people play through. Honestly its good for bith if you. It sucks making them wait behind you if you're slow, and it sucks when you're learning and have people stairing at you waiting on you. It adds unnecessary pressure.


Practice chipping and putting. Getting it close to the hole, and being able to knock it in. Reading the contours of the green as well as speed.


Don't take it too seriously. Have fun.

If you shank it into the water 5 times in a row, its ok, shit happens. Maybe you got a par or a birdie, or had a really good drive or chip. Just play more often and youll improve fast.
