My favorite is when there is a little pushing a shoving and ESPN spends the entirety of the next morning analyzing it. NBA used to be hard af (Pistons Pacers anyone?) but is super soft now.

But refs are actually a problem, did you see recently in i think game 4 of LA vs POR the lakers had 44 free throws while POR had 19. Star players in the NBA get preferential treatment (happens in all sports tbh) so honestly, the refs and NBA bring it on themselves, if they treated everyone equally then players wouldn't see a reason to complain, just the way it goes.

I get it and agree but I swear it's like every other play someone is chewing out the ref. Tbh the refs tolerate way too much lip these days. And don't get me started on the flopping. Good grief

Honestly thing I would keep MLS over NBA if we had to get rid of a sports league. College bb is better game play anyway and MLS plays in some unique and cool markets. NBA has felt more like a show than a game for years.

But yeah MLB is boring as fuck. And I personally can't sit through more than 15 minutes of an NFL game, stopping the game every 5 seconds is retarded, I just can't. I know people usually like football tho, so that's just me, I like fast paced sports, give me some NHL and NBA over MLB and NFL.

Well, the declining revenues+rising costs mean something is going to have to give. Those $300mn contracts may become a thing of the past. The salary "cap" system of the MLB is ridiculous IMO. It's entirely unsustainable if they don't figure out how to increase viewership and interest in the game.

I never said it's going to die. But it's going to need to adapt.

Season ticket sales are down yet prices involved in going to games continue to go up. That makes it very unlikely to change.

The average VIEWER is 55 years old. It fell by 35% in the key 18-48 demographic in 2019. That's not sustainable.

TV ratings for high profile games (World Series, playoffs), continue to fall. The most recent World Series averaged just 13.9 million viewers, the lowest ever.

It's becoming a regional sports, not a national sport. If your team isn't in the playoffs, you're probably not going to continue watching. That's the exact opposite of what is needed.

Who is reversing that change? Who cares about 2nd highest revenue-generating sport in the world? Only the US matters...and in the US it's followed by an aging demographic. Unless that changes......Those TV deals may not be as big as the MLB hopes and needs.

I think sports league are very political. Same deal when Kaep started kneeling and the shitstorm that ensued, or when the Warriors refused to go to the white house following their title. NBA players (and coaches) are also probably the most political pro sports players.

Sports have almost always been political since they went "mainstream".

You've got individuals like Muhammad Ali, Billie Jean King, Jackie Robinson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Bill Russell.

You've got actions like the 1980 Olympic Boycott, the salute made famous by Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Olympics, the 1972 Munich Olympic Massacre, etc.

The list is quite long.

The thing is, people only care when it goes contrary to their opinion. Muhammad Ali got a TON of flack and criticism for speaking out against the war in Vietnam. Now? Everyone praises him for it.

I will say this. STOP THE DIGITAL OVERLAY IN BASEBALL. Im sick of that crap. The strike zone square is alright in replays but it gets so old seeing stats and "Steal Percentage" crap all over the players. Just play on TV whats happening in real life.
