Always for me if there is a foot rest on the bar. Fuck having to sit down when I get off.
The lifties get mad butthurt when you do this and its fun to ignore them yelling at you that its against the rules.

GrandThingsI sometimes try to when I'm boarding, but usually find it's more of a pain in the ass than just strapping in up top like normal.
OregonDeadpretty sure good snowboarders do not have to sit down just to strap in their bindings. everybody I ride with just reaches down while they are riding away from the chair. also no one good uses the step in bindings
animatorFacts and facts. I work at a shop and one of our snowboard guys said step ons are for, “old people and fat people” lmaooo
PeppermillRenoOlds and fats ski exclusively these days. Boarding is not popular anymore.
im thinking new Burton ones so they might be good. Or could suck.
theabortionatorBoarding is still popular it just isn't necessary to ride freestyle as it kind if used to be. Ie "snowboard parks" where skiing would get your pass pulled.
The shitty thing is that ski patrol were such douches about it some places, swearing at people and pulling passes, and now you can't even tell Jerry's to gtfo the jump knuckle without risking your job.
animatorAlways wanted to work park crew for JUST that purpose, because no one ever tells people to get out of the way, and nobody seems to understand that it’s for their benefit as much as the riders
theabortionatorOne of the formal complaints i got working park crew was at buttermilk telling some douchebag ski instructor he coukdnt park his kids on the landing of a 70 foot jump. People are fucking idiot. He gave me the whole "i was here since 1469 before they had a terrain park and I can do what I want". I was like sick, when you or one of your kids gets gets killed or seriously injured that seems totally worth it. Literally all in a spot where they couldn't be seen centered on the landing. Also on 3rd jump of line. Dude was asking to hurt a person riding or one of his kids. Some people are so fucking out of touch.
SofaKingSickThing is, for every 2 employees who know what they're doing there's 1 who just likes to hear his own (high pitched, mountain kid) voice and being a douche bag. I've had park crew come up to me and freak out because I was standing on the corner of the knoll, like next to the flag, somewhere you'd never have a chance of hitting me unless you're already completely FUBAR
obv I hate oblivious people standing in a blind spot on big jumps but it's just as common to see some tool who thinks he's hot shit who is just dying to freak out on some kid who (gasp) used a rail lip to get a sweet foot of air and didnt adversely affect anybody. Lots of mixed information out there, I'll say that
theabortionatorI've never freaked out on anyone for hitting a rail lip unless they hit/almost hit me but it's def not cool. Should people scream at somebody fir that? Nah. Is it okay, def not. If people side jump all day the take offs become berms away from the rails.
That's especially frustrating when tou work at a mountain that has 3 or 4 parks designated for noobs with a ton of effort put in and they side jump the large or xl parks. If somebody snakes me in the bigger parks to side jump and isn't a child ill probably tell them to get fucked.
As much as nobody should be mean whatever, sometimes somebody yelling at you clicks. People could be douchebags in terrain parks and skateparks but you learned the etiquette. Now there's the vibe of "everyone can do anything they want and it doesn't matter". I've seen so many collisions because people don't know what the fuck they're doing in or out of the park. Sometimes a good verbal assault is all that will get through to people.
And ususlly I'm only a dick if I'm not really a dick and the other person is. Like yo, you fucked up, could hurt somebody gtfo.
Also just in maintenance it's a nightmare to rebuild heavily side jumped features. Trying to dodge those people is a pain. And those are 100% the people that sue when they get hurt. There was a lawsuit in canada about a kid sidejumping a rail tskeoff and that's the reason or part of the reason they have thise orange signs now.
Ride the park, enjoy the park, but follow the rules.
Sorry a little salty more abiut other stuff ive seen on NS.
clindblomskierFor some people it takes just one talking to get them to chill out. When I was 13 or 14 just starting park a dude that I respected called me out for trying to 3 off of rail lips instead of the jumps (I was a bit scared of them them lol). Never side jumped again I didn’t want anyone getting mad at me again
