Utah park homies, whats the move?

Summer classes had me real busy this summer and I completely missed the deadline to buy a pass a Brighton. If all goes well, they will reopen sales so I can buy one. If that doesn't happen - I am at a loss of what to do. Park City seems like the best alternative but their passes are expensive and I wouldn't make use of al the perks that it offers. Ive even been tossing around the idea of getting a touring setup and just hucking my meat on some back country hits.

Anyone got the low down on what Brighton plans on doing?

How are you guys planning on adapting your skiing this year with Covid?

Brightons case is the same for everyone so we just gotta play ball with that. It is what it is, no lifts in Nov/Dec/Jan might happen but we can always at least look forward to Feb-May possibly. Thats the best skiing anyways. Im eyeing LCC again, Probably snowbird or another altabird upgrade only because if we get a good snowfall year, that possibility of being able to ride the lift in the later parts of the season will be on the table, and they'll give you your money back if you decide to bailout before then.

And yeah will probably be touring a little bit this year, but also trying to keep it safe, with small groups, and away from the madness of other people. No lifts means a lot more people out there in the BC and i dont wanna get caught in someone elses mess.

If the people that normally form crowds aren't skiing, I might try snowbird this year. If it's business as usual or no lifts, probably woodward because they're open and don't have crowds. By the way, if you're going the back country jib route, you can hike less than one hour to most of the good spots at grizzly and don't need a setup.

I want to ski at Alta so badly, I might upgrade this year, but damn is it a lot of money, especially as a weekend warrior

it sounds like an obligation having a two-resort pass or whatever and feeling the "need" to ski it out, which i felt the same away about getting an altabird pass, but i used it up plenty and youll get your moneys worth on the snowbird component, and I ended up skiing Alta a lot more with my sister and friends who work there which was a lot of fun, and definitely got my moneys worth (on one really deep morning in particular)

Yooo, thanks for this link. I was on park city's actual website and did not see these prices - granted I didnt look extremely hard. That is way better than the $700 ones I was seeing.

Idk man, Zane Kushman seems to think snowbirds park is way better and Im gonna have to agree with him.

I hear ya there. Alta is expensive af but nothin beats mobbin under collins lift on 8+ inch powder day. I may have to buy a pass there. It wouldn't hurt my wallet that much if we get another stimulus check.

Very true. I need to take my avy 1 course and probably some additional training before I step foot in the back country. Unfortunately theres probably gonna be a bunch of knuckle heads who will just go out there with no training or experience.

Wildcat laps on pow days. That’s what beats mobbin Collins. Alta has some of the the best natural hits in Utah in my opinion.

Absolutely, snowbird has some gnarlier lines, but Alta people build kickers and fun tracks every year

As a whole I'd say grizzly jump spots are pretty safe. You can hike what is a groomed cattrack up that way, and then youre not skiing any steep terrain, however there is a gully, so be wary of that as a terrain trap. Get a beacon probe shovel, and take Avy 1, then go with more experienced people. That said, it's likely this will be a very high number season for people getting caught in slides.

Yes, another person who reads too deeply into things. Duh, get safety gear and training - that goes without saying. But you 100% do not need skins, an adapter, or a pin binding to go 100 vertical feet spread over half a mile.

I'm not excited about having hordes of advanced-intermediate jerries coming flying down from above when I'm trying to build a small jump on a tailing pile, but we have to make do with what we have.

PC has the best park around, hands down. PC absolutely crushed it last year, I'm bummed we didn't get march/april this year, usually the best time of year for PCs park. Brightons park is fun, but the tubes and a few unique rails are the only thing that holds up to PCs park, the vibe is great at brighton too, but PCs vibe is pretty mellow as well. I always bought PC/Alta when I was in college, it was all time.

Millie tubes and maybe 3-4 other rails are the only good thing about Brighton’s park aside the drunk/high as fuck vibes from everyone, jumps are assssss. Some people don’t like PC vibe cause there’s to much corking for “core” park skiers to handle I think, oh and “CAuSe ItS OwnEd By VAil”

I have never skied Alta but this seems like how it is. Snowbird has the scary stuff and Alta has more playful knolls to jump off. I have to say I really miss skiing Snowbird. The sheer number of fall lines and different terrain is unreal. Its almost like someone took the top 5% sketchiest terrain in North America and shoved it all into one resort. Of all the skiing I have done in 32 years of being alive, my couple of seasons at Snowbird have produced the most memories for sure. There is this certain chute you can hit that is kind of between Towers and Daltons Draw that is like 4ft wide and snakes down between these rocks and you literally end up on a knoll and it feels like you are going to drop on top of Peruvian. Its so fun to poke your way down then hit the afterburners right at eye level with people on the lift. Good times for sure.
