4x5 really is special and their isn't a digital option that approaches the quality, at least not for consumers. 35 mm is my go to just for because it's compact and way less expensive, easier to pick up expired/ deadstock film and I'm always on the move.

i've been shooting 35mm only like a year and a half now and really like it, not looking to replace it - for the same reasons you are saying too. i got curious about medium format recently for the quality increase, especially shooting landscapes. but then i found out about large format cameras and that might be more interesting for me - good fit for packing with, distortive control by shifting and moving the standards seems awesome, and the DIY potential of it as well...

WOAH. I wasn't before but I am now, I'd really like to know what the DIY process is like... and more of a pinpoint on cost but these things are freaking sweet. Definitely going to take a look.

Yeah the distortive control is really cool to work with, just another aspect of image control from the start. The quality is also just mind blowing, since your 'raw' image area is 4"x5". It would be a stepping stone towards using even larger negatives and making your own plates, which is a really fascinating rabbit hole.
Depending on where you are, there might be somewhere you can rent a large format camera from to get used to it. I can imagine it would to start getting expensive to process 4x5 colour film real fast though, even getting c-41 35 mm negatives done is a bit pricey.
