Poacher is definitely more all mountain than the revolt 87. Maybe look into the revolt 95 as well. Could always email line to see if they can provide some incentive to stick with a new chronic if you email them the photos and a backstory. worst they can say is no.
This happened to my brother on one of his first day on some revolt 86s. We basically just bent it back into place and counted on him not putting to much pressure on it. My case may not be as severe as yours but id say its worth a shot.
freeskibum82I have. it happens when kids slam into the end of a box. you can see the impact damage at the tip of the ski.
What I meant to say here is that I have never seen it happen on a Chronic. Especially in that area.
I completely agree that fore-body breaks can and do happen in the Jerry of the Day box slam situation. They are even more common when people under-rotate back flips and stuff their tips.
We have internally developed a 3 point break test to to make sure our skis are way above industry norms and far beyond what any ski should see in "normal skiing situations". The test is really violent so it always amazes me when skis break in the field and the skier is still healthy.
Internally we look at warranty skis to investigate how and why our skis are breaking in the field. (You would be shocked as to how few skis actually break in the field.) These outlying cases of skis breaking help me understand failure mechanisms and sets the path for future improvements. I like looking at broken skis because it allows us to see what specific layer(s) failed. For example: it looks like the top layers of glass buckled on this pair which means that the ski was deep-flexed upon failure. Either the bond between the core and glass failed or the glass separated from itself. Buckling of the top glass is a common failure in all skis because all of the layers on top of the ski are in extreme compression when the ski is deep flexed whereas the layers below the core are in tension and are not subject to buckling. We intentionally move the neutral axis of our skis higher in the ski to shift more load to the bottom layer to combat this buckling. It is a small design consideration that makes a huge difference in product durability!
I know that there is an inherent issue with this ski's durability but we could potentially improve the break strength even more on future designs depending on the exact failure mode. Either way this is not a normal thing and is just super interesting to me. More info and data is how we get more durable and better skis. Understanding extreme boundary cases is one of the best ways to make future improvements. Unfortunately, Ben lives in NZ so its complicated getting the skis to Seattle for me to inspect.
