This weeks edition of Ask Me Anything is with one of our sports most rounded athletes - Sammy Carlson. One of the few remaining pros from the ol' day’s who is still consistently pushing the envelope of what is possible on skis. Spending most of his season stashed away in the Canadian interior, Sammy has found an enviable pace of life and continues to deliver mind-blowing segments every single year. Sammy is one of skiing’s hardest workers and one of the most genuine characters you’ll ever meet.

Saw you gave a signed poster to the Shell gas station in Revelstoke. They kept it up on the wall for a while, that was good of them, and cool of you to do that.

Any advice to not get injuries?

My motivation is constantly changing. I am inspired by many different things in life.. My motivation at first with skiing was to bring a strong technical style. I wanted to be known for my style!! I was Motivated to do well in X games but also film as many video parts as I could. I wanted to be the weezy or 2pac of skiing... Have endless amounts of footage and hits!!

Once I made it, after a solid X games career and several video parts. (2011)
I was motivated to be one of the best to ever do it. I wanted to try and put my name next to the other GOATS. I wanted to get on Candide and Tanners level.. I never wanted to be the best, Just one of em!

Right now my motivation on hill is to bring a new style of skiing. Surfing has been a huge inspiration to my skiing the last 5 years.
I want to become the best big mtn skier I can and ride gnarlier lines than I ever have before..
I want to see back country skiing the way I see it and feel it in my head.
The last few years have been a good start. In my mind, I'm just getting to the place I want to be with Reading different terrain, understanding all the risk involved and knowing how to get there. I like to do things the right way.. all good things take time.
They say it takes an average person 10 years to become an expert at something.
this is my 7th year focused on back country skiing.. I have always put in above average effort. its time!!

My motivation off the hill is to stay strong, keep jumping on my trampoline so I don't lose the tricks and air awareness I have spent so much time developing.
the last few years the tricks Haven't been my focus. That doesn't mean I lost em all or forgot about em.
I'm also always motivated to expand my mind and my main goal is to keep the stoke ALIVE!!

leprechaunsissyI chased you down for a photo at Revelstoke just before covid hit (thanks!). Is it difficult to maintain anonymity at the resorts?

YO YO!! I always love the support. It means a lot to know I have the support of other skiers backing my style that I'm pushing.
Sometimes I like my space, as long as you have good intention, always come say what up if you see me!

OregonDeadWhat is your favorite line on Mt Hood? Also, what is your favorite line to ski in the entire state of Oregon?

My favorite line on Hood is right off the summit all the way down to the parking lot.. I got a whole new appreciation for Mt. hood after my first Summit with my brother back in the day!

Japan has always been my favorite!
Flat 3 Japan is Still my favorite trick of all time... It feels timeless and you can go the biggest with this type of rotation.

3maniaWhere is your focus/ mindset on hitting natural features that you've only scoped out but haven't hit before?
