Experiences with cops

Well, I shot the sheriff. But I did not shoot no deputy.

Right after I got my license I was speeding down c470 in the denver area at night and noticed a car come up real quick behind me. Being young I was like "alright bud let's do this!", and proceeded to speed up to about 100 mph then eventually the lights came on and got pulled over. Lady cop just comes to the window and says "what the hell were you thinking? I can tell you're stone cold sober (which I was definitely a wee bit high) so what the hell were you thinking?". Told her I have no excuse and for some reason she let me off with a warning.

moral of the story, don't try to race cops.

I think the reason state police are generally more chill is because they have to deal with all the bullshit and insanity of the people who live in rural America, so every time one of them has stopped me they were just probably relieved I wasn’t a meth addict or something. City cops kinda just feel like hall monitors in middle school sometimes. Obviously I commend the ones responding to life threatening situations, put for fucks sake don’t throw some kid on the ground just because he had a beer in his hand.

I'd get hassled as a teenager because I drove the shittiest cars on the road. They'd make up random shit all the time just to fish for whatever they could find.

My favorites include - getting pulled over for an out headlight under the midnight sun in Alaska. Whatever, right? Pulled into a gas station afterwards to see both headlights reflect back to me in the window.

Officer pulls me over for 'crossing the double yellow' after leaving a concert venue. I had no idea where it happened and cop got pissed when I asked so he had me get out of the car and do a roadside. Tried so hard not to laugh during it because I hadn't even started drinking yet at that time in my life.

Someone called the cops on me riding a 50cc dirtbike around the neighborhood in the middle of the day. Dickhead cop threatened me that I'd never get my license (i was 14 or 15) and that the bike could get siezed and crushed because I didn't have a license and it wasn't registered or insured. I could literally ride my bicycle faster.

Same cop that tough-guy'd me for the dirtbike the got video'd by his wife abusing his daughter - local PD completely disregarded it and tried to cover it up until it went to the county and then the entire force got dissolved.


Tl:dr fuck the cops. The system is broken in a way that cops get no gain or benefit from building a relationship in a community but instead from documenting traffic stops, writing tickets, and making petty arrests.

Spoiler alert Ozark, but this is hilarious how she responds to the request to search her car. I always wondered how I would respond cuz you have the right to say no but that just creates more hassle sometimes. My black coworker on her way home from work refused a search cuz no reason so they brought the dogs out to hopefully get a reason to search. She said the look was priceless on the 8 cops' faces 30min later when they came up empty.

Figured I'd put this in here, I have somewhat of an insider's perspective.

I never got pulled over much, when I did it wasn't a big deal. Usually just would come clean and would admit my wrongdoing etc. etc. Great way to get out of a ticket.

I have family in the force and did work with the police force in high school. Never wanted to be a cop but we had a close family friend in the force. I found the stuff I did fun for a while and it was interesting to see what it was like. I lived in a town that was nice during the summer, very touristy, but very poor outside of the tourist season. Lot of meth, petty crime, drunk drivers etc. I participated in a lot of training exercises with officers and I was able to see first hand how great some cops were, and how bad others were.

One that comes to mind was a scenario we were running where there was a "Shooter" was in a room and "innocents" were supposed to run away in front of the cops, directing them to the shooter. Everyone is armored up as we were using simunition, which can sting. The kids run out in front of this cop, and the cop was so on edge, in a simulation, that he lit them up. He was reprimanded verbally but due to time constraints, he didn't get a second run through. This is not uncommon. Especially in that department. An officer that year had answered a domestic call, the man went back in to get his wife and came out with a 12 gauge. Blew half the officers face off. Officer survived. When you get shot at in your line of work it tends to make you nervous. This is why I am somewhat apprehensive about defunding police.

Many cops are taught that the world is dangerous and almost all departments have an officer safety-first policy. When you are always on edge and poorly trained bad things are bound to happen. I think there are some great aspects to defunding the police. My biggest fear is that there will be less training. I was listening to a navy seal talk about how a for a 9-month deployment they would train for 12 months sometimes. When there is a high stakes, escalating situation you need to be calm and detached. Many cops won't see 12 months of total training in their entire career.

My other concern is that with the current climate, good people are going to stop wanting to be cops, then you will get more Derek Chauvins who don't care if they are a garbage person or if people hate them. They are the type that feed on that.

The best thing we can hope for is higher, and I mean much higher, training requirements, mental health checks, and a one and done system. Try to keep the good cops and get rid of the bad. For me changing the laws surrounding charging officers and taking away the power of the police unions is another, if not more effective way to change policing in the U.S.

Fuck have I been waiting for this thread.
Two day after getting my license I got pulled over in a super remote area between Silverton and Durango Colorado where I had NEVER seen a cop or a state trooper before. It was only 7:00 pm but pitch dark out. I was driving home after grabbing some food in Durango. When the cop pulled me over the first thing he asked me was what I was doing driving alone that night. I told him I had picked up food but he stated he doubted that as in order for me to do so, I would have had to drive 45 minutes both directions. I told him no I really had been getting food and I could show him the receipt if he would like. He said no to that offer, than asked if I knew why I had been pulled over. I had not been speeding, as my 98 Tacoma does not in fact go over 55 M.P.H. According to him I had a brake light that was "functioning Incorrectly". Okay, whatever I thought, no big deal. I handed over all my registration and he walked back to his car. As hes doing that I called my mom. I was almost home, and had an increasing feeling of dread in my stomach. I figured she could be to the area fairly quickly and could help if anything went down. After I hung up the call, the officer started walking back towards me. At this time my truck had a topper on it and all my ski gear was in the back. As the officer walked past the bed of my truck he stopped and shined his light back there, then proceeded to come back to my window. He handed me back my stuff, then asked me what was in the bed of my truck. At this point the vibes are super off, and I just want to leave as fast as I can. I tell him its a few pairs of skis and some other gear in the back. He asks me to list out exactly whats in the back so I did. Three Pairs of skis, Two pairs of boots, Two Sand Bags, Two pairs of poles...ETC. He goes silent for a second than asked me to get out of my truck and open up the bed so he could look through it. This was the breaking point for me. As soon as the words left his mouth I knew something was seriously off. I understand why a cop may want to look through a trucks bed, but something about this request sent of giant alarms in my mind. There was nothing in my vehicle that was illegal or incriminating, but the whole situation seemed to be escalating kind of quickly. Thankfully before I had to say anything a pair of headlights appeared. I told the officer that I had called my mom and that the car approaching was her. I kid you not, this man goes, "I am just letting you off with a verbal warning, Have a nice night." then SPRINTS to his car. As my mom pulls up, the officer pulls out onto the highway, yells to her my brake light is messed up, then speeds away.

I had a bad feeling the rest of the night but eventually I sorta forgot about it until a few days later when some friends mentioned sketchy cop behavior in our town. I told them my story, and they all pointed out that it seemed the cop had been trying to almost stall during the encounter and his reaction to my mom arriving was odd. At first I just laughed but the more I thought about the whole incident the more unsettled I became. Maybe I am just being dramatic, but I, as a small teenage girl, feel that I was in an extremely vulnerable situation that night.

I'm gonna guess most of our experiences on here are minute compared to the encounters minorities have on a daily. I've heard some ratchet shit from friends and coworkers who are black.

Most of my less than pleasant experiences are with cops in college. The city cops were just douche bags who try and bust kids all the time for drinking. They fucking tased a kid once for running from a party. I know another kid who got speared by a cop for running from a party too. State Patrol is pretty chill. City cops basically sat in Taco Bell parking lots just waiting for a mother fucker to act up. Turn without a turn signal, pulled over. Don't turn into the adjacent lane, pulled over. Headlight, taillight, license plate light out, ooohhh too easy. Then they wanna check everyone's IDs and run em for warrants; they would never do this if they pulled over a family of four and I find it very annoying. Throw a party, campus security calls the cops who then act like hot shots trying to bust up the party and threatening to arrest you for supplying to minors. It was always the young cocky ones straight off the boat who were the biggest dicks.

So anyway, any of you got any juicy stories good or bad?

We didnt have cops at princeton. Only public safety. For the most part they would leave the kids alone. I got stopped by them for pissing in a bush in a dorm coutyard and they checked my student id and let me go. Try pulling that shit at a state school haha. You might have to register as a fucking sex offender lol.

overall though ive had chill cops and ive had complete assholes.

The bad ones are more common than the right wants to admit. Probly 1/3 of them are control freak douchbags. Maybe more. Who knows

i cant stand the way cops will often act like you have something to feel guilty about.

like officer go buy a gaming laptop and play world of warcraft in your police car while you wait for a call to come in. Cops who just randomly pull ppl over then treat them as if they did something wrong are total ass hats.

Now that I am older and " behaved ", my experiences with cops has dwindled, to non existent. When I was in my late teens and twenties, I had countless. Lot's of very very close calls. One that just came to mind, I was in NYC for a weekend, and was on my way out of town on a Sunday afternoon. Checked out of my hotel, and was on the side of the road in my car packing a bowl. I put the packed bowl in the door handle space, pulled up to a light and was on my phone talking. Suddenly got a knock on my driver side window, looked and it was a cop. Put down my window and he told me to pull over. I couldn't grasp what happened it was all so sudden, had he seen me packing that bowl? Where did he come from ?

The light turned green and instead of pulling over I just floored the gas and took off. He was on foot with no car, so he couldn't chase me, he just screamed HEYYYY!!!. I went maybe two blocks and saw a parking garage and pulled into the garage and went up to the top floor and left my car, went and walked around for an hour or so. I was shitting my pants, first time ever ran from a cop in my car. After some time passed, I got my car from the garage, and left the city for Boston crapping myself the whole time thinking at any moment they would definitely spot my car and get me, or perhaps at a toll booth they would be waiting for me, but nothing ever happened and I made it back to Boston and somehow got away and never heard a thing about it. Close call on that one. Later I realized, They had just banned cell phone use in NYC while driving, and that cop likely saw me on my phone and was trying to ticket me for it. Cool story tell it again?

Idk go to trial do your time learn your lesson go to work.

I’d say fuck the police but everyone always has some shitty uncle who’s a “good cop”. Cops who are silently complicit and feed into the us VS. Them mentality are not good cops and no amount of performative kneeling or Good Samaritan cop propaganda will ever change that. The only positive experience I’ve ever personally had with a cop was right after a car crash and my friend who was driving got cited and after it was all over and we were wrapping it all up he literally said to me “Stat safe out there guys there’s a lot of assholes out there.”

I've heard this is pretty common. I know there are a bunch of undercover cops in Maine and they will try to tempt us youngsters into racing them.


I've been pulled over 4 times I think. 3 for speeding and one for going through a stale yellow/turning red light in Boston and some horrendous intersection that I got stuck in. Got two speeding tickets and two warnings in 10 years of driving. Both times speeding was about 10mph over.

All 4 times it was a good experience. That being said I'm a middle class white male so I have a tremendous amount of privilege to begin with.

That's a pretty legit story. Definitely wouldn't reccomend anyone running from the police because I feel like that never ends well, but sounds like you might have been the 1% of those times that it actually didn't end terribly

Montilla and all the women around her which she says were all women of color were patted down and subjected to invasive searches, including a vaginal search and “harsh” breast pat-downs. I've had very few interactions with officers. Played water polo with a guy in High School whose dad was a deputy, always came to our games so I knew fairly well. The couples times I had an interaction with a uniformed officer it happened to be him so it was fine. Also had a deputy who was assigned to my high school whi was there everyday. Same guy all four years. Seemed like a decent person and heard very few complaints. Only real negative was when I had a Colorado state trooper ride my ass from Buena Vista, through Leadville, and then down I70 to the silverthorn exit. Riding my bumper the whole way.

Just talked to the local sheriff dept again last night. Our karen neighbor called the cops again. Issue was we were having fun. This time she mentioned skateboarding. Stopped skating at 9:04 sunset was pink till almost 945. And fuxk it. Saturday friggin night. She litterally just sits at home looking to complain.

Cops came at like 1030 and I chatted to them. They were cool said see you next week? Was like yeah prolly lol.

Oh also when knew roommate first moved in month snd a half ago. Had her first box of stuff. Literally first box of stuff to move. She came down taking photos told her "I know what you're doing and it's illegal ".

Wtf are we doing lady? She also thinks were airbnbing. Idk. Im so quiet and work nights she didnt even know I live here and I have for 2 fucking years. My roommate did air bnb the downstairs November and december. And we've had a permanent downstairs neighbor since January.

Was gettin slideways in my nova one night on the way home from purchasing some fine herbs and got pulled over. He asked if I was drinking, I say no, he looks at my eyes, shakes his head and says get Outta here.

I hate it when they have quotas to meet. Then, they look hard to fine you for something dumb.

We head out and less than 5 minutes down the road run into a sobriety check point. Literally the only time I have ever seen one of these in my life (this was in Worcester, MA).

Cop walks up to the window and shines his light directly in the driver's eyes and goes "Hmm your eyes are looking a little red their son." My friend just stares at him point blank and goes "Yeah I dont know what you're talking about, I dont think they are."

Cop stares at us for what felt like an hour flipping the flashlight around the car and finally goes "alright, have a nice night" and we peace the fuck back to campus freaking the hell out.

I was selling, but I had actually retired about a month before they came. They found nothing except for an old scale with bits of dabs on it and some cash. They gave me my cash back and charged me with nothing lmao

Dude fuck those checkpoint things, the amount of scumbags videod in them was impressive, granted some of the people provoked the officers and 1/10 times they catch an illegal. Reminds me of one time going up 93 north in high school, probably between Plymouth and WV I passed someone going 80 on the 70, kinda slow down and quickly see a statie flagging me to pull over from a bridge. Guess the aerial traffic radar got me cause they don’t set off my radar detector, oh and they weren’t posting signs to warn people then like they do now. Cop comes up and with no hesitation begins to scream through my car at me with 4 friends with me, all I remember was it was brief as fuck cause all he told me was I have a serious speeding problem and next time I’m getting a ticket, might cussed in there too but idk I was 17 and heart was racing. From that day on I lost any respect to the NHSP, I don’t care what they do they basically thrive off weed busts (NH is trapped around legal states) and speeders, cause fuck fixing the heroin problem and suggesting less liquor stores along the highways to reduce drunk driving. My last almost run in with them 2 years ago involved me being in traffic along whatever route goes from Nashua into 93 at like 530pm, see him flying through traffic, try to move for him as the roads clogged and he was within feet from slamming into me at over 30mph, where did he go? Just up the road where his partner was with no suspects, no crash or anything, just having a clearly joyful chat, I remember wanting to scream at him to go fuck himself but too late.

Was in Exeter NH last summer and a bunch of them were at the hotel I was at. Saw them loading a bunch of shit into some rental minivans.

Ive had one bad one in particular, when i was speeding down i94 halfway between billings and miles city, about 9 am cop comes the other way then comes down the roads with lights on, he was respectful and but very small town cop, after he gave me my 40 dollar ticket (which i had to pay twice, since i had to send a check or cash and the first one got lost in the mail, when i called their city hall about why i had an arrest warrant for a 40 dollar speeding ticket, they said it must have been lost in the mail, and he will "keep his eye out for it", i sent a check the second time). But i digress, I was driving home after the school year and i had all my stuff, and my ski boots and wet suit had a bit of a scent, but it clearly was not weed, just BO and water bacteria. He questioned me and every time i said i had no weed in the car for about 5 minutes, he asked me to calmly open all my containers, which were tea, sugar, flour, and a thermos of water, my car just looked like it was packed for a road trip. After that he searched my car then took out all of my suitcases, skis, surfboard, boots shoes and opened them, then he said he isnt gonna get a dog because i was compliant.
I thought it was totally ridiculous but I had nothing to hide so i figured it would just be better to deal with it, i had to stretch anyway.

Also my best friend, who by the way looks like a minority because he is ridiculously tan, and with his work he travels around a lot because he works for an airline. He has delt with "safety searches" when travels every now and then, he had to deal with one on the way to my house like two weeks ago by the MSU pd, which are just awful.

Was on.my way home from hiking for a few days and was doing 72 and Leo goes by in the oncoming lane, flips a u and pulls me over. Since there was a orange cone on the shoulder marking a rock he says its a construction zone and tacks another 10 mph on the ticket. Then I get arrested because of a warrant so 19 hrs later I get bailed out, $ car out of impound, $ lawyer, then found out it was for missing a court date. Community service more bs $ and was over, fucker.

I was racing an older M3 on a boulevard in the Denver area and won the race but then lost big. A state patroller was going the other way and flipped a U turn fast and pulled me over. The m3 driver just sped off and was probably laughing his ass off. The cop came on the intercom told me to throw my keys out the window and open the car door with the outside handle. Then get out hands above my head.

He walked up to me gun drawn and detained me in cuffs. He thought the car was stolen or I was running from a crime it was bad. I sat in the cop car while he went through my glove box getting my insurance and title, he saw the car wasn't stolen and unshackled me. He told me the only reason he wasn't taking me to jail is because he didn't want to wait for a tow truck and book me for the night.

Wrote me up for a 21 point ticket and I pretty much lost my license the second I walked into the court room. It sucked and getting a gun pointed at your head is always very scary.

armchair_skierI think the reason state police are generally more chill is because they have to deal with all the bullshit and insanity of the people who live in rural America, so every time one of them has stopped me they were just probably relieved I wasn’t a meth addict or something. City cops kinda just feel like hall monitors in middle school sometimes. Bump because I have a story. It doesn't have a ton to do with the police, but they play an important role in it.

So back in high school my friends and I would take this shortcut through this big field (like 1.5 miles) to get to one of our houses after XC practices and school. We did this all throughout Freshman year and most of Sophomore year without any issue, but one day we were running through the field and some dick started yelling at us and got in a combine/tractor thing and chased us through the field.

Now usually, we would be able to outrun said tractor, but the thing about this field was that there was a Quonset hut on the side we were running to. So the guy in the tractor must've told the person in the Quonset hut that he was chasing us because someone then came out of there and cornered us. He took a picture of us so there was no point in continuing to run.

Anyways, we were getting yelled at by these two guys for like an hour, and at the end, one of them called the school and got us suspended for 10 days and kicked off the XC team for two races. Looking back on this, we should've just stopped taking this shortcut then, but being a bunch of pubescent chads, we decided to keep messing with them.

One of the things we did to him was have one of us go up to his front door in the middle of the night and knock on his door. Then we would have someone sitting in the bushes with a BB gun and when he opened his door we would open fire on him. We did this once a month for a while, but he stopped coming to the door after a while, so we had to come up with a new plan. So then we would just shoot his bedroom window every 30 minutes or so, just to wake him up and piss him off because we were idiots.

We were doing that one time and it turns out he decided to call the cops on us. We saw two cop cars coming down his driveway, and instead of running, we decided to just sit in the bushes longer. The cops went into his house and talked with the guy, then the cops left. But it turns out that one of the cops stayed behind and waited for us. The cop walked around the house to where we were hiding, and shined his flashlight right at us, and told us to stand up and put our hands behind our head.

The cop led us into the house and lectured us with the owner for a very long time. Miraculously, the guy said that he wasn't going to press charges, but the cop said that if we are ever seen on the property again we would be sent to a juvenile detention center (we already had some stuff on our records). The cop led us outside and put us into his car. He yelled at us for like 30 more minutes before saying that he wasn't going to arrest us, just because he didn't care very much. He drove us into town and let us out. Then we had to walk to my friend's house that we were "sleeping over" at, which was like 8 miles away, and the fastest way there was through the guy's field.

So guess what we did! Yep, we went through the guy's field after all this. Luckily we didn't get caught.

For our senior prank, we took some gasoline and burnt a penis into his field in the middle of the night. we weren't caught.

It was in Montana, I'm not sure exactly what the law said, but I talked with a buddy who's on the force about this a bit ago, and he said that the guy could've shot us and most likely not suffered any repercussions. It's fucked because cops practically advertise that you are allowed to shoot someone if they are tresspassing.


Just want to clarify for everyone that I am not at all proud of what we did. It was a super dumb move as a teenager and I wasn't bragging or anything.
