tech.deck.juulyo i’m ass at skating (other than chill shit). can you old skater men/women give me some pointers on what best to practice and what not to do. thanks love you
DolanReloadedWhy did you make a thread if you arent going to follow up?
DIRTYBUBBLESkate every day for as long as you can with people who are better than you
DolanReloadedHow tall/heavy are you?
how old are you?
what are you riding (deck width and length, trucks width, wheel size and durometer hardness, bearings brand)?
Once all that is taken care of you just need to ride your board everyday and once you get really comfy you can start learning how to ollie, aaron kyro makes some good instructional videos on his yt channel braille skateboarding.
Starting off is kind of like feeling your way around in the dark. You have to try different things, different postures, different movements, to find out what works and what doesnt. Just like you cant really explain how to properly throw a baseball, you just gotta get the feel of it by practicing. Also if you are old you are gonna progress alot slower than kids do. I never even tried skateboarding until college.
im not that good i mainly just roll around popping ollies and shuvits but i like how skating reminds you of how to keep your body somewhat athletic, flexible, and springy. Its really good for your core strength too because to do anything you need to have your core taught to keep you somewhat rigid on your board for balance.
For skate shoes just wear adidas samba indoor soccer style shoes or even tennis shoes. Whatever works. Running shoes are not good for most ppl but some ppl like them.
tech.deck.juuli’m mmm roughly like 6 foot and 145 ish pounds. i’m 15. currently i’m riding a 8.5 with stage 11 hollow independent trucks, reds bearings, i have onsen wheels (like size 48) i might swap on some spit fire wheels that are a bit smaller.
DolanReloadedI personally ride a 35 inch deck from skull skates which feels perfect for me bc im 6’1 and 210-220. Most decks from regular skate brands vary from 30.5-32.5, which is ridiculous to me because the hip width of people varies much more than just 2 fucking inches. I think a big part of the reason most adults give up skateboarding in their 20s and 30s is because at age 15 their hips were 2-3 inches narrower than they are now, and they are still riding the 30.5 inch long kids deck they rode as a teenager.
thats the most original advice i can give you op. All the other suggestions in this thread are good too, but ive never come across a post online that mirrors my sentiment; you want to have a board that feels comfortable relative to your hip width.......so you dont feel awkward trying to squeeze your 36 inch wide ass onto a 30 inch twig of a skate deck. Obviously thats an extreme example but having personally ridden boards ranging for 30-36 inches, it feels 1000x better to be on a board that lets you stretch your legs out and stand naturally, without feeling crowded in by the nose and tail of your board. Of course you dont want to ride too long of a deck either; i have a 35 inch deck and a 36 inch deck, and although i can skate both fine, i prefer the 35 inch deck.

LonelyThe looser your trucks are the cooler you are
Asym decks are all the rage now
tech.deck.juuli’m riding a deck by a local company and it’s fits me pretty well. i’m not a very wide person so most decks i can stand comfortably on. i also have a spare set up (a 8.25 chocolate) but i prefer my new one because it fits my feet better.
