theabortionatorNever got into it but seems like "My main bike is $7,000, my backup is cheap just like $2,500, and my subaru outback that I put them on was about $650" seems like a common sentiment from my friends and others I know. Fuck it, if it's your joy spend the money where it matters. Mtn biking wasn't the same when I was a kid. Would be cool to get involved in but I'd turn to dust if I fell now.
Would dabble if I took a year round job doing terrain parks and bike trails though. Get something cheap ish and stick to easier trails. I used to build bmx dirt trails so always been passionate about dirt. I just doubt I could friggin ride for shit these days.
I have no idea how any if that is relavant. I'm sorry for making anyone read this.
Turd__Authority"cheap" lol damn
Biffbarfyou may bend a cog on a cassette
skiermanhahaha, good god. good fucking god.
BiffbarfThis ain't pinkbike old man
skiermanIf someone mainly focuses on "customizing" their bike or how it looks, they can't ride for shit.
BiffbarfIt is retarded how expensive mountain bikes and their components are. I got into mountain biking thinking bikes were some simple machine you could beat on and they'd last forever. I was so, so wrong.
If you really get into it, you'll quickly learn that even a sub 2k bike just doesn't cut it. The wheels fail, you may bend a cog on a cassette, the dropper will fail, brakes and suspension will require service after no time at all. After only a short period of time your 2k bike turns into a $3500 bike.
And let's not forget about the consistantly changing specs on bikes - say you finally got your bike dialed and reliable, it is a few years old and you crack your frame. No worries, the frame has a lifetime warranty right? Wrong. Now your wheels don't fit, nor does your dropper.
Idk shit gets me heated.

Film.My buddy and I purchased some lightly used dirt bikes that we've been ripping all summer. Picked up a road biker who had a flat and needed a ride back into town, super nice guy but he couldn't believe it when we told him we both spend under $8k and got really nice and reliable dirt bikes. He told us his road bike was approaching 10g's and that he couldn't believe something with a motor could be priced the same as a high end road bike. All in all I don't get how road bike parts are so expensive.
DolerogadoAre canyon bikes good? I want a dh bike

clindblomskierI race cat 1 and u21 enduro on the east coast and I'm looking to race EWS professionally as an adult (claim). I've been racing enduro for 1.5 years now (been riding for 10 years) and my season goal for next year is to qualify for EWS and race u21 at a couple of the rounds. I'm 16 and I own two 7k+ bikes and I bought them both myself by saving money and using my shop discounts.
ColoradoDogfart/claim
clindblomskierPut a claim in it already
ColoradoDogfartI was putting a claim bc you said you paid for 14k+ by your self with no help. thats the claim
clindblomskierI get 50% off from the bike shop I work at. I only paid 7k for both

JAHBRADORI remember when I was 12 I disagreed with everything you said. 10 years later, have you become chillguy420 or have I just grown up and realised you were spittin Tru this whole time?
finderIt kind of scares me how much more often I find myself agreeing with skierman these days. Maybe the new breed of trolls are just less funny.
CLQIt helps that he hasn't been making fun of anyones recently deceased sister lately.

TheMailManNo 16 year old has $7k of disposable money to spend on bikes. You must be on some serious allowance from your parents.
Which is cool, at least it's a positive way of spending their money rather than just a huge TV and an Xbox. Good luck for the future

clindblomskierIt started out with one 2k bike, which I sold for 3.6k and then bought a 4K bike. I sold my xc hardtail (which I bought the previous summer for 1k) For 2k, and then saved up 500$ and got a Smokin deal on a Norco revolver fS that’s probably worth 7000 or so. When I say I buy my own bikes I do, and I work 3 different jobs to get enough money
No.QuarterIf you got a smokin deal on a bike that's "probably worth $7000 or so" you don't have a $7000 bike.
If you flipped a 2k bike for 3.6k, you probably put more money into parts on it or you sold it to a dumbass.
clindblomskierWhen I said 7k in my original post I meant msrp not actual worth, I thought that was clear. I work for what I have and you can choose to believe me or not
skiermanWho the fuck uses MSRP to describe the worth of anything? Kid, you dumb.
DolanReloadedpro mtn bikers who do the big drops off cliffs are insane in my opinion. Wiping out on rocks at 40 mph is probably not as fun as it sounds
