KevskiI definitely had to condition myself to appreciate house music. Initially found it way too repetitive, too strict on beat, etc.
It’s all about subtle variations and transitions and ebbs and flows - you almost can’t listen to it through the same conscious, technical lens as most other music.
Definitely a style that is meant to be felt more than it is explicitly thought about, and I think this song is no exception.
Dance music is a tug of war between repetition and Originality.
In order to be a good song to dance to, it needs to have a persistent fast beat or rhythm that allows dancers to be moved by the musics fast paced energy.
but if the song just repeats the same thing for longer than 2-3 minutes it can get repetative, so it is good to have different phases in a song.
strobe is a great example of a good song you can dance to that isnt repetitive. It has like 4 or maybe 5 sections, and only like 2 of them are dancable. The rest are part of the buildup/comedown etc...
some songs are good and dancable for the whole thing which is optimal in a nightclub or techno concert where the audience doesnt want to stand around waiting for the dancable section of the track.
