King of The Road... but for Skiing

Hear me out. How sick would it be if there was a skiing version of Thrasher's King of The Road where they grouped up a bunch of the up and coming freestyle skiers from different sponsors and each sponsor had a team. They road trip around the US, or Europe in vans and have to do challenges out of a book for points like they do on KOTR. They would show up at different mountains and meet up with different legends and throw down with them and have challenges where the teams compete against each other. The team with the most points at the end wins a cash prize. I know on King of The Road guys can do tricks out of the book just about anywhere since they're skateboarding, whereas skiing you need snow, but you could still do some of the gnarly non skating/skiing related challenges from the book while road tripping to the next mountain. Completely agree love to see the heart of skiing come back, maybe more like based like G.N.A.R too? Really great movie...if someone made a modern one or KOTR I would watch it in a heartbeat .

The first season with Ahmet, Hathaway, Clarke and Hibbert was sick.

such a fun series, but man they should have kept it going and it would’ve went wild.

Sort of funny to look back on the series and see how far skiing has come in general, though.

It would be cool if they did both skiing and snowboarding because it would be cool to see how each of them do the jib challenges and what they come up with

Group at my college does something like this with a bunch drinking and random challenges and skiing and snowboarding challenges since the Uni owns a ski area. Happens during our Winter Carnival.

yes. the truth is a snowboarding is just riding around single ski board. just like skateboarding is riding around on one skate. skateboarding is rollerskating and snowboarding is skiing.

I've had multiple friends who skateboard/longboard say that snowboarding felt completely foreign to them when they first tried it. Idk what snowboarding is really like but I would guess surfing maybe?

They're all different to an extent. I feel you can get surfy with all of them a bit. But balance and the basics are all pretty different.

Yeah, a lot of trick based action sports have mostly different muscle memories. I wonder which two are the most similar though.
Maaaaaaybe going from skiing to blading? I have yet to see a good freestyle skier who did not instantly click with blading, even if they found skateboarding more fun.
But I have observed a good amount of bladers saying that skiing feels awkward to them.
Does surfskating really feel like surfing?

KOTR is fucking elite and while the Road Trip challenge was dope, this is not likely to happen in skiing much longer. Skiing is evolving a lot due to social media and media production. The shop I work at in NH used to sponsor Cam Riley and Shea Flynn, and we regularly had people like Seth Morrison and Mark Abma in the store, just hanging out and talking with people. Skiing is unfortunately not the same anymore, because all of a manufacturers budget goes to heli skiing in Alaska and pow trips to japan. Don’t misunderstand, skiing media is awesome and I love seeing people push the envelope both on skis and behind the lens, but it’s less grounded than it was. Skiing used to be humble and down to earth, with pros visiting their local shops and mingling with people, as well as pulling up to movie premieres. This occurs less and less now and maybe I’m just lame and old school but it’s sad. Just my $0.02!
