Idw buy another friggin pair of boots 😡 will make 3 in 3fn years if I buy another

Can I make my spros capable of skinning? Maybe drill couple holes for pins, insert pin receiver....

Or do I just buy boots? Idw a lightweight boot

You can get custom inserts. Doing on the cheap though, find a touring adapter or just say fuck it and use snowshoes instead.

Someone correct me if im wrong but I think in theory it would work for shifts and maybe kingpins

CAST does boot conversions but it costs $200ish and I imagine takes a bit of time to get your boots back, so probably not ideal if you live somewhere that has a long ski season. I also remember seeing some threads on tgr about this and it sounded like some people were able to make it work, I dont remember seeing many details on how to though unfortunately. Personally, I've been thinking about doing it for a little while. I bought some broken touring boots with the intention of cutting them apart and reusing the tech inserts, but I haven't done anything yet because I'm waiting to purchase a cast system. I definitely plan on practicing on some old boots first before I decide to go through with it on my current ones

CAST mod will only work for CAST/shift/duke pt where you only use pins to skin up. If you want to ski down on pins any sort of after market insert will probably run a high risk of pulling out of the toe while you're skiing

@DAYMAKER_TOURING adapters are an option. Clicks into a regular binding and any alpine boot

just watched the day maker touring video , pretty much sold on that vs any other , guess I’m waiting for next years models which is ok.

Yeah I got some this past year and they’ve been great. I’m young and still growing out of skis every couple of years so they’re a great option for me. Especially since I don’t tour a ton

Shifts yes, Kingpins no. Can tour up with the pin conversion but skiing down on a tech toe you'll tear them out.

i currently use daymakers... they're great for short day tours but they're heavy. Take into account the room they take up in your backpack as well especially on a longer day tour

thinking of running that setup as well: shifts + boot conversions next season. Have you tried it out at all?

I was thinking more about them jamming in my back when I eat shit... almost a deal breaker but idk they seem great otherwise.

I’ll primarily use them for very light tours, and resort side country

I have a buddy who ran that setup on some bent chetler 120s and they were great for touring but you’re not gonna want shifts on an alpine setup

I haven't skied a boot with boot conversion myself. Just worked on plenty of boots that have had them done (bootfitting, mounting with them etc).

You’re gonna want to make sure the toe lug on your boot is solid plastic if you’re gonna do this yourself. A lot of the lighter weight boots have a hollow toe lug and most boots with replaceable soles will be very hard to get inserts into since they’d be half in the toe lug and half in the sole.



that said I’ve been running a cast toe conversion on my alpine boots for a year and its worked fine, Touring in boots with no walk mode isn’t great but I can comfortably do it for about an hour/ 1000 ft of climbing, longer than that and I’d choose to use my touring boots, but that distance is enough to get to any of the gnarly terrain outside to gates of jackson, great for lapping shorter zones with gnarlier skiing.

Find a set of used touring boots at a price.
Doing a boot conversion is taking a lot of unnecessary risks to just save money.

Taking any kind of a drill to your toe lug is going to compromise its integrity. Even just for going up hill, if you fall and that receiver bit rips out, you could be super fucked if your lug doesn't fit your toe piece. The inserts on touring boots are a full metal piece that runs inside the boot to give it stability. Personally I wouldn't be trusting any modifications that change how your boots interact with your bindings.
