Covid-19 Antibody Test

I signed up to have one done in BC. Waiting to hear about when/where they want me to do it. It will be interesting because I was/am travelling for work every two weeks through Vancouver Airport since this started.

I've seen stuff all over the board about these. How reliable are they? I'd love to get one but I'm not trying to get a big head over a false positive. I had a gnarly cough in december and January that started with flulike symptoms. Ski'd a ton in summit county CO and routinely had exposure to friends and colleagues from around the globe.

I'd probably stick to one of these tests (https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/emergency-situations-medical-devices/eua-authorized-serology-test-performance) for most reliable results. The sensitivities and specificities are listed for each test and do vary so read closely. Best bet is to contact the lab and ensure it's one of these tests and figure out what the sensitivity and specificity is.

Every person I work with who said they had a bad cold/flulike symptoms in the winter came back negative for antibodies. Every single one. lol.

I tested positive for COVID on April 3rd and had the antibody test done last week - came back negative for antibodies. So I can't say for certain if I had a false positive or a false negative but I do know that one of them was wrong. Higher chance of a false negative Ab test than false positive diagnostic test and the Ab test used was not FDA approved so idk.

Yeah everyone "thinks they got it" and most of them definitely didn't, I've heard people say "i was sick in decemeber (or january or february) I DEFINITELY had covid!!

Lol can't even count how many times I've heard that phrase. My parents were mild to moderately sick with the common cold or some other seasonal pathogen in December. Had me go to the store to get medicine and I had to wait in line behind some nasty looking guy clearly with a cold coughing up a lung in the register and air I was about to go stand in. Great. Well what do ya know, I obviously ended up getting me fucking sick too from one of them. I was pissed. First time I've been through cold and flu season as an immunocompromised individual. I was so fucking sick for 2-3 weeks and coughing to the point of almost puking and waking up gasping for air; no fever though. If I had that now, I'd 100% think I had covid. They all think they might had covid but I say unlikely cuz I woulda infected my entire workplace in addition to there being an epidemic in Northern Vermont as I traveled lol. Also I'd probably be way worse off too.

Long story short, no most people probably didn't. Uncontrolled spread months before our peak and before taking any measures would have been noticeable. Right? I guess anything is possible but I'm leaning towards unlikely.

100% - If THAT many people truly had it then, we wouldn't have seen the dramatic spikes that we did. We would have been much farther along the curve and had seen proportional deaths/hospitalizations. Especially factoring in how quick it spreads, literally so many people would be coming back positive for antibodies right now and the latest number I heard was 9% of Ab tests were coming back positive. Disclaimer, I have no source. I'm just going off what I heard and there are known issues with the Ab test but for the sake of conversation and not debate - those are the numbers I'm throwing out there lol.

Like my facility saw a HUGE increase in deaths - the average being 4-5 per month and we are currently at 62 since April 1st when we had our first round of positive cases. If we truly had COVID in Jan/Feb, we would have seen a spike much sooner (in my own theories/estimates)
