Covid 19 Unemployment Thread

That's so fucked people still haven't received unemployment yet. Infuriating. Their archaic systems are really showing. I know of both people who received unemployment easily and others who have either been denied or having huge delays. It has not been consistent between cities and towns either; I'd be willing to bet it's really difficult in a large city to get unemployment.

The biggest BS is there's some legal gray areas where employers can't really help employees obtain unemployment, but just point in right direction.

My employer had furloughed roughly 30% of nonessential staff immediately when coronavirus hit and is asking departments to reduce by another 15% by mid June cuz our census is so low. So far my employer has been paying people up to 160 hours which provides a nice buffer but that ends in June.

Now with the 15% reduction, our department had to furlough roughly 15 employees without pay. I'm worried they will have issues obtaining unemployment assistance and this extra $600 I'm pretty sure only goes through July at the moment. My job title just took a 10% pay cut to delay furloughing us, but if it doesn't pick up by August, they're probably gonna end up permanently cutting 15% or more. That's thousands of employees.

Personally it feels like stuff is starting to pick back up again so I'm optimistic. I feel bad for businesses that will never recover and for the large majority of folks who had no backup plan or savings for their previous career that doesn't exist anymore. The economy is not in good shape and probably gonna get worse before it rebounds. I'd expect it to follow the trajectory of covid.

Also some more bullshit is the sectors that shouldn't be affected, are. My mom is a teacher and even though closing of schools actually saved tons of money, they are facing budget cuts as their budget is being used to fund other areas of the government that saw reduced income or increased expenses. Kinda crap if you ask me.

UI is a state by state thing. If you guys are having issues maybe say what state you're in so people can share relevant info.

I wasn't able to get into the system in Colorado for almost a month. All the people trying to get online have effectively caused a sustained DDOS situation. A lot of people seem to have had luck signing up for the various websites in the middle of the night when web traffic is low.

Spoke to nice lady from the identity verification department yesterday who told me my verification was still pending and she didn't have access to my account. Then, when I checked my account later that afternoon my claim balance went from 0 to the correct amount and I was able to certify for all the weeks since the beginning of my claim. Think mayb I charmed my way into a lil assistance? Then today I called back again to see if I could make summore magic happen and spoke to another nice lady who said similar things about not being able to access my account but that i was on the right track. Checked my account an hour later and all the weeks that I certified for changed from pending to paid. So ya kinda flustered right now wondering if all it took to get the ball rolling was talking to sum compassionated ppl or it was just coincidence. Either way feelin greatful.
