I missed Covid... legit, I joined the Marines and went to boot camp on 3/1. I’m vaguely aware of what went down with Covid from letters I got from family but nobody had any ski news so fill me in.

Are brands/athletes doing good or did this hurt everyone?

Does Henrik still have a project dropping this year?

Whats Level 1 doing instead of a feature?

Any good deals I should blow my boot check on?

Are small resorts getting fucked by closures?

Seriously, let me know how Covid hit skiing.

Pretty much everywhere closed early and a few places that still have snow are opening back up if they can. Tom Hanks had Covid but I think he got better. Other than that, you haven't missed much

COVID imho has changed the landscape in terms of working at ski resorts or ski bumming for a lot of people. Thousands and thousands of people making very little money virtually unemployed overnight and while people got furloughed, a lot of the resort companies had to cut pay and lay off a lot of other workers to help support seasonal/hourly workers. doesnt seem worth it to move west, work at a resort, and have your job taken away from you that you definitely need to survive with, especailly in resort towns. A lot of us that dont even work directly for the resorts lost our jobs too, it had a huge ripple effect.

The big resorts will be alright but the ski towns and local communities that are supported by the resort/tourism traffic are pretty fucked for a while. Its gonna be a minute before some places rebound with the most brutal summer/shoulder season yet and a pretty slow ski season upon us

As far as the us goes, all the resorts shut down within basically a week. About a month later mt baldy in ca reopened for a few weeks on a reservation basis. Timberline lodge followed suit a week after they closed, with 250 reservations per day for 2 lifts. Just a bit later Mt. Bachelor opened to pass holders with 500 reservations per 2 lifts. Reservations were selling out in seconds to bachelor. It took me 3 days to get one for Saturday. And they closed Sunday. Now a basin is reopening in the same fashion. They’ll probably sell out even faster

Don't be surprised if a lot of brands drastically reduce the number of products and styles coming winter 20/21. Even if they already made the samples and showed at trade shows. With the uncertainty around the economy, large retail stores (which is where most large brands sell their goods) possibly having to operate at reduced capacity and missing the spring closeout sales season there is more product leftover and less future demand. Many brands may have to go into a safety mode for a season until participation levels can come back.
