What actually happened with CoreUPT skis?

I remember being in late high school when CoreUPT got my attention. Colby James West, TJ Schiller, and Candide pro models. I remember losing my mind as an impressionable teen. I never could grab a pair because they went out of business almost as soon as they were cool. For some reason, my mind always thinks of Faction as taking the baton from CoreUPT. Probably because of Candide, the great team, and the excitement.

Anyways, my question is: what actually happened to CoreUPT?

I was a huge TJ Schiller fanboy then and I was crushed.

Basically Coreupt came our strong right of the bat with a stacked team, attracting them with $$$$ contracts, pro models all around, and generally spending a fuckton of money on their athletes.

But then sales never quite took off, their skis suffered from a low quality image that they never really addressed, and on top of that the founder and owner at the time, pro skier Guerlain Chicherit, was going car racing around the world, building luxury condos, and just living his best life instead of focusing on addressing Coreupt's issues. Let's just say the man had too many distractions to be able to properly run the company, and a lot of people in the industry blamed him for how poorly he handled the situation with some of their athletes and suppliers towards the end, the company had a lot of debt it was never able to repay.

They had kind of poor quality skis from what I've heard. Also I think most of their pros started to switch to bigger companies which def didnt help them

Weren’t the first year or few years of coreUPTs skis all rebranded dynastars or something like that? I vaguely remember.

Basically the owners were not good businesspeople, they screwed over their team and ended up owing a lot of money to different companies etc.

iirc Klint got screwed up when the owner got a divorce and his ex took part of the company, and batalla went under after having to move production out of the epic planks factory when their skis weren't delivered

And they rebranded look bindings as the DLD, short for dildo. There was an interview of the owner explaining something along the lines of “so his wife could have a bit of him around all the time”.

They seemed like the first “buy all the pros and worry about product after” brand. Never quite had the grassroots cred around here. The fact that they put the word “Core” in their name but started as anything but core didn’t seem to help them.

What a trip. Haven’t thought about that company in probably almost ten years
