Took pics with a pocket microscope of armada and volkl sintered bases

The first 2 pictures are of the base on the arv 106 ti which armada claims is sintered. The first is at 60x magnification and the second is at 120x










The next pictures are from the sintered base of the volkl yumi.










The armada base (pic 1 and 2) has been waxed and scraped a couple times while the volkl base (pic 3 and 4) is factory fresh. I think the 2 skis bases look similar, although the armadas seem to have a more checkered appearance. I dont know what the grey freckles and black freckles represent—im hoping one of you wax gurus can tell me! The white splotches on the armadas i think is wax residue- im not sure though.

anywho, i hope at least some of you find this detritis interesting

No need to be defensive, I've tried out my wife's groomer skis, they're really fun. I wouldn't want to be on a 153cm piste ski on anything steep or difficult because they are short and super turny but they're fun in the right conditions.

Ngl even with isolation boredom hitting hard, taking multiple microscopic pictures of 2 different skis is one of the top gear nerd things I’ve ever seen on NS. Kudos OP

I was on shrooms once and had one of those pocket microscope things. I literally looked at a wood table for 2 hours. It was crazy, like looking into a whole different world.

One time I ate 3 grams of pocket microscopes and I looked at shrooms for 2 hours straight. It was so beautiful it changed my life

No worries man i was just joking around. Clown choads are underated anyways. I would like to try head supershapes some time. I saw a vid of some gangster euro dude doing a dub 10 on supershapes. Im sure one rail hit on them would completely total the edges but they probably carve like a mofo on bath salts.

I have another picture and a theory about what we are looking at.

After scraping the waxed armadas, looking thru the scope there are areas that are mostly grey with a few dark spots. These areas seem to not have had the scraper tool grinding them. On the other hand, in the middle of the picture you see black spots with a bright white line on one side of them.

i think the normal grey area represents base material that has wax dissolved in the polyethylene. And i think when you scrape the ski, you squeeze the wax out of some areas, (these areas turn black bc they dont have any wax in them) and you build up wax residue at the side of each black area which shows up as a bright white line on the side of the black area.

i think the polyethylene base material might actually be softer than you think seeing as you apparently can squeeze the wax out of the amorphous parts of the base when you scrape it.

the main reason i think this is whats going on is because pretty much every bright white streak of wax is right next to an area that is completely black

what do you guys think....

Yeah you can see the border where the stenciled in armada letters are slid into the black background. Ill post a picture tomorrow
