Attack13 Demo (versus Pivots)

I've always skied Pivots. There's some Black Ops I can score cheap but they are mounted with Attack13 Demos. How big a difference would I feel on the Demos? Would the stack height feel all goofy? Or barely noticeable?

The attack demos have a very low stack height for a demo binding (the demo plates are very low profile). I ski them the majority of the year and the only thing I've noticed is that I need to crank my heel DIN 1 higher than most other alpine bindings (had a few forward pre-releases, bumped it up 1, no issues since).

I've been skiing attack 13s for awhile now, had prerelease issues and then moved up one and didnt have that issue.

I will agree that the pivots just feel more precise. Dont know why, but they do. not that attacks are bad per say, but it's the difference between using a butcher's knife and scalpel

I agree, it's kinda funny though because your feet actually move around way more in pivots

I own both. Def ride the pivots but the attack demos are great bindings. If it’s a good enough deal, I wouldn’t hesitate. I’ve done exactly what you’re considering with no regerts.

I hear only good things about demo attacks, which isn’t surprising since their stack height is low to start

im a Pivot Princess and I’d totally take demo attacks as part of a good deal

I think it is the best demo binding out there. Also, the holes line up great if you are going to eventually mount pivots on them.

I used to have pivots and i didnt like the mushy feeling in the heel. If you have any doubts about tyrolia attack^2s then watch evan mceachran and colby stevensons runs riding on attacks in the vid below. The neutral and super low stack height seems to work very well. Whatever problems ppl have with attacks seem to be an adjustment issue bc they work awesomely for evan and colby

Biggest reason I like attacks on my skis. When I crash I dont have to feel like I need to make my own groomer to clip back in

I have never had this issue, even in deep sierra snow. Idk I know a lot of people do because its one of the biggest complaints about the binding, but personally it never bothered me. just grab the ski while you're putting it on and then its zero issue.

I really like the mushy pivot heel feel. It makes the ski feel more damp. Attacks are definitely the best demo binding, but whenever I demo skis they always feel way more chattery and I think it's because of the bindings but I don't demo a ton so take that with a grain of salt

Im pretty sure most pros ride whatever bindings they are most comfy with. I dont think k2 and tyrolia have any relationship, so that might be why colbys attack2s mounted on his k2 poachers were black and unassuming. Theres lots of relationships in the ski business. For example tyrolia obv has a relationship with fischer and 4frnt and head bc they produce attacks with 4frnt graphics and attacks with fischer graphics and attacks with head graphics. So mceachran is riding basically in house bindings that work well with the tyrolia head corporate structure and his bindings were bright neon yellow and black at xgames. Head/tyrolia wanted everybody to know evan was riding their attacks.



colbys attacks were black and hard to make out, im assuming because k2 and tyrolia arent in any sort of relationship. Last time i checked colby wasnt even listed on the tyrolia sponsored athletes list on their site.

Not quite the way you think it is, i know for sure that colby is getting free bindings from tyrolia, so is sam zahner and bmile. I can almost guarentee that next season colby will officially be on the tyrolia team, same with zahner. tyrolia does give free bindings to colby most likely flow, and you gotta realize that bindings make honestly no difference to these pros, andri ragettli, nick goepper, oystein braaten, all curb stomp into shitty ass marker jesters and theyre winning all sorts of comps including the olympics, same with alex hall, harlaut, torin, syrja in pivots. Pros are going to ski the bindings of the company that get them paid.

IIRC '20 Attack2 13 AT (*edited for accuracy) demos have 32mm stack height. They *look* low profile (that metal track is most sexy) but actual height is ~5mm higher than comps from Marker & Salomon. Pivot (14) '20 stack height is 18.5mm.

Are those to which you are referring 'AT' models? Those are significantly taller than the regular demo attacks but I think they're only like 24mm. 32mm would be huge stack height, like race binding spacer plate huge.

That's right - this is the figure for the Attack2 AT Demo 2020 model. Thanks for pointing that out.

Is the non-AT demo even available any more?

I don't think they sell current Attack demos with the non-AT toe piece. That said, I barely notice a difference when I'm switching between the old Attack demos and the new ones, despite the taller AT toe piece.

Nice to hear this from someone with street cred. Cy mentioned somewhere that y'all use these a lot when testing/reviewing.

Yep, we've switched over most of our skis to Attack2 13 AT demos over the past two seasons. We still have new and old Marker Griffons demos on a good number, as well as some Salomon Warden demos. I'm fine with all of them, but I love mounting the Attacks since they only have a single hole pattern on the jig and it's nearly impossible to screw up (which is nice when you're mounting 50-75 skis a year), the quick-adjust system for the BSL is really nice, the AT toe piece is convenient for trying different boots, and they ski fine.

Overall, I think current demo bindings are really good, and way better than a few years ago. I don't know about the more rental-oriented demos that are kinda like race bindings with a connected toe + heel, but the ones that are basically the regular bindings with extended tracks and quick-adjusts for the BSL are super good.
