Hey, if this should be in gear talk my apologies. Ik most of you have seen the Woodward park skis they use for their ramps. I have an old pair of honey badgers which are otherwise trashed rn and wanna look at mounting wheels on them. I have pretty much no skateboard knowledge besides basics so if anybody has any input on how to design these so they work the best for some switch carving on a super mellow hill that would be dope. Thx boys. And yes Ik this is a super dumb idea but it’s quarantine and the backyard setup and tramp aren’t satisfying my crave to carve so why tf not
I think if they r close enough together it would be fine when I stood on my skis with skateboard trucks but def a risk. The only other guy who did it besides Woodward did a more basic design of penny trucks mounted under skis cited that as in issue
skiP.E.I.I'm no expert but I think for roller skis, actual skis might be too flexy to put wheels on. Maybe use some wood instead.
Line Honey Badgers are gonna be too flexy to mount on, they would just flex scrape the ground under your foot when you apply pressure because that's what a ski is designed to do...Just buy some blades and have fun with those. Especially if you wanna carve down hills.
Depends what you would want to do on them. If you get big wheels you can go way faster, but if you go for a small wheel aggressive skate you could take them to the skatepark and do grinds and stuff
If you just wanna bomb hills and flip into the foam pit then get some 4x80mm urban/rec skates. I'd recommend USD Aeon 80s, although they're expensive (https://oakcityskate.com/products/usd-aeon-80-skate-1). You can do a little grinding on them too if you're careful lol. If you just wanna buy a cheaper big wheel skate then I'd say the Powerslide Zoom (https://oakcityskate.com/products/powerslide-zoom-pro-80) is a good option especially because you can turn it into an aggressive skate if you buy a few parts.

Yeah probably. I learned to grind rails on skis by practicing it on blades. Ironically, doing a frontside (same as urban entry on skis) is the grind I'm probably the most scared of lol. Idk how much the non-groove grinds are gonna help your rail game but they're super fun lol and make grinding more interesting.
It's not the same as skiing in a concrete terrain park, still very fun though.

Any skates you’re going to “grind” will have a groove in between the middle wheels locking the skate in place. This feels nothing like sliding a rail on skis

Most hockey shops can mount almost any chassis to a boot but be ready for some sideways glances. I like the downvote, as if this idea is any worse than riding around with those ugly moon boots above.

Hey OP I know with the rona and all ice rinks may not be open but if they do open this summer, gettin on a pair of hockey skates is closer to skiing than rollerblading is because of edge control and whatnot
Thx for all the input guys, probably going to purchase aggressive inlines. Understand carving isn’t as good (thx for telling me that) but even if rails feel different that’s still appealing to me. Super stoked

Back 2 and front 2 I’ve noticed are a bit more difficult as u have to land perfectly on the wheels, but aren’t that bad, but switch ups seem very hard. I would lovr to learn to turn on these though as that part feels nothing like skis.

Antirocker is harder to turn with until you get good, and even then some people can't stand how it feels. However, riding 4 wheels down is definitely harder to grind with, maybe get precise with your grinds before you try riding flat.

Yooo - whomever is looking to buy blades in lieu of skiing, do it. Although a lot of sites right now are running low due to inline skates getting super popular during the Corona Virus pandemic, you will not be disappointed and will definitely help your rail game 100% due to the fact you'll still be sliding metal sideways & spinning all summer long vs. a shorter snow based winter. I love blading too because most times, its not the same level of commitment as a day of skiing often takes (getting up at 5:30 am, 2 hour drive to hill, getting gear on, etc) to where you can just session for an hour or so at a local skatepark and have just as much fun. As far as models for those looking to grind or get into the aggressive discipline, check out THEM skates (908/909), Roces M12, or Razors cults for some good entry level skates for under $199. I ride the Aeon 60s flat and think they simulate skiing well due to how low to the ground they are, but are a bit more pricy. How long have you been blading? - going on almost 3 years. I would say the first few months was really focused on getting comfortable cruising around and learning the basic grinds (soul, acid, mizou, pornstar, frontside/backside). I think where most bladers make the mistake is similar to skiing - you have to actually get comfortable riding before you can hit a rail comfortably with control going 10-15 miles an hour. Spend some time getting comfortable rolling and youll really start to see the time you invested in yourself pay off later down the line.
Do you do a lot of skitrix/ how has it helped your park skiing? - Yes, but you have to advance beyond what you know how to do on skis. Everyone you skate with will be super impressed with your ability to frontside, 270 out any dowrail, but most skier/bladers I feel like use it as a sport to just practice their spins and kfeds vs. trying to actually learning the differences of blading. Embrace the new maneuvers and the soulplates as youd be surprised how many tricks you can bring over (ie. fastslide/backslide)
Any recs to people looking to get into the sport to stave summer time boredom? - mentioned above, but THEM 908s/909s, Roces M12, or Razors Cults will all be a solid entry level skate for under $199. I personally ride the USD aeons flat (with 8 wheels) and found that made all the difference in my swerving ability.
Its not that the scooter crowd doesnt have skill, that urban edit a view posts up was nice as well, I just dont feel it.
Fair enough! That video was made by the homie here in CT (@badgerclit) and def was the most core scooter video Ive seen to date so was hopeful in changing some of y'alls mind. I wouldn't worry too much about the scooter kids though, let them have fun & give them the same respect you want to be given at your local spot/park because you never know, you may just come around to it for ski inspo if you meet the right people ;)

It's important to call it that bc "switch" on blades means the unnatural grind side/spin direction etc.
