For the last while I've been developing a portable rope tow system intended for backcountry skiing and splitboarding. My plan is to continue prototyping and launch a kickstarter campaign sometime next season. I'm hoping to get more feedback on the idea now in order to make sure I'm building something people will actually want.

looking to build a rope tow for the backyard like 200 vertical feet. I was gonna build a fixed tow but portable would be great to session different sections of the hill. Cool idea op! Survey done

so you ski with the line attached to you, and use it to ascend back to the top? I’m skeptical but would love to be impressed by a portable tow system

holy shit is this for real? it can be that small and still have the power to pull you uphill? what kind of steepness can it pull.

this thing would make sled laps out of pillow sections its so rad.

big drawback though, you need a pitch that is a straight shot with no trees or i guess you could dangle through the trees.

At that size its gonna have like a 5 degree slope limit i feel like. Idk i think it would be better if you attached the line it at the bottom and it stayed on the line and maybe you set it to a neutral mode so gravity brings it back down to the bottom then you dont have to ski each lap with it. If you did it this way you could perhaps make it a bit bigger/more power.

I hopeful they can make this workable. I have been following the updates.. I am sure it wont work for every scenario, I can envision its application in few of my regular spots.
