He doesn’t need to be banned. He is just another troll who gets a kick out of triggering people and he’s actually successful at it.

So I am going to ask collectively that we realize that he’s not serious about what he says despite how he may try to sell it. He’s far from the only one on NSers that does it. But when y’all start fights with him and get upset by what he says you’re giving him the entertainment he wants and turning everyone against each other. We’re a community here for Christ sake. We shouldn’t be hating and flaming each other over the gear we use and the personal choices we make as skiers.

I have no problem with him at all but I’m just saying if you want his content to stop showing up on this website then simply don’t reply and move on. Just remember that trolls get what they want when you get triggered. Anyways I hope we can move on and make a better community instead of letting people corrupt us for entertainment.

I like reading what Dolan says. Most of it is pretty good at explaining an alternate viewpoint and while I generally disagree with him, I'll admit he has changed my opinion slightly a couple of times. He's really not that heinous of a member, and I think people can actually gain something from a lot of what he says.

This should prolly go in the unpopular opinion thread.

I lm actually a pretty nice guy. The only time i really show what im made of is when somebody asks for me to be banned or for my posts to be deleted. That truly does piss me off.

other than that im just a typical john stossel libertarian just with no manners or etiquette.

If you look closely at what i respond to you will see i dont start shit unless someone attacks me or im trashing some hypocrisy. And hypocrites deserve to be trashed in my opinion.

i happen to be good at machiavellian persuasion and good at verbalizing intense attacks on said hypocrites, which i wont lie is pretty fun.

but dont think i would just attack someone to put them down. I only attack someone who either attacks me first or cant see how hypocritical their beliefs are.

i think im part of the reason ns is making a comeback tho—for example by having an ongoing dialogue with like 30 different people across numerous threads.

if i didnt post as often nobody would
say my threads are garbage.

ill admit i post more than i should

but at the heart of it i want to make people happy more than i want attention or recognition.

look at how many threads there are updated within the last hour on sg and nsg....

that cant be all because of corona virus...

Okay I don’t think my point was very clear. I have no problem with him. I have just noticed that a lot of his threads turn into intense arguments through no fault of his own. What I have been trying to point out is people are being very abrasive towards him and members like him and essentially if you have a problem with him or members like him and the sometimes outrageous (and sometimes true) claims they make then just don’t comment to their threads. This isn’t a callout thread or anything.

Trolls will always troll, honestly it was way worse back in the day. It seemed like trolling was the thing to do on nsg and summertime nsg was practically the underside of a bridge with all the trolls hangin out.

The new Dolan is way better than the old Dolan. At least most of his content is about skiing and some of it he dives extremely deep into and it’s semi interesting. He needs his own review series with his own spin on it.

Dolan dude I've definitely disagreed HARD on some shit (almost everything) but end of the day you've got your place here and especially lately I often find it entertaining. Was the same with Trvp - as ridiculous as most of his posts were he kept things going and in some cases real discussion happened in the periphery. As much as I'm an advocate for being thoughtful and nice to each other I'm a bigger advocate of being able to have discussions with and having exposure to people who are different from each other. At the very least you find a way to explain what you believe in a bit better.

Trolling and being mean has been around on NS forever, as have obscure internet subcultures that surface here and nowhere else in most of our daily lives. People are weird, NS can be weird, but it's part of it. We're all skiers and this is probably one of the last places where our feeds aren't filtered by some algorithm that studies our biases. You might have the trendiest pro filmmaker shooting the shit with a 60 year old man who grew up with a different "new" type of skiing, with some 16 year old nerd who's too timid to do any tricks but loves the idea of it and knows every edit made since 2009, with some army dude who's "seen some shit" but just wants to ski hard and isn't buying any of this fluffy fairy stuff.
It's never gonna mix perfect but we're all pretty stoked about something in common and maybe that'll stop us from killing each other over some forum posts haha
It's not all *stereotypical backcountry dad* argues "real skiing" with *stereotypical new wave iNdIvIdUaL* gets shit on by *stereotypical thug-era hooligan* and thank god for that.

Ive been scared to say it for a while but I actually love reading Dolans shit hes one of my favourite members. Honestly, I surprisingly agree with his opinion a lot but I usually dislike it anyways because the way he words it makes him sound like such an asshole but thats what makes it so funny 😂. Its even funnier when people get pissed I can feel their raging salty vibes through my phone screen.

tbh I got pissed once... but that because it was about the corona situation (when everything closed) in Italy and I felt like it was total bullshit he said. I was already pissed and then he came around and poured gasoline in the fire.
buuuuut. I do really enjoy some of his comments cause they keep discussions going and bring out different points of view.
maybe Dolan shouldn't put a stick into open wounds when people are in trouble or things like that, but I defintely want him to keep bringing "fresh wind under the wings of a dying thread" (so poetic)

The suppression of what someone has to say should NOT be a left or right issue. It is a human rights issue. I believe everyone should be able to say what they want to say, and they should be able to be heard. Speech should be able to be equally scrutinized as much as it should be able to be praised.

I'll give you that the context of this thread is about trolls, but my issue, and what I'm directing my posts here primarily towards, is the fact that NS has created a blocking feature. Like I can just block anyone for any reason. I could just block you, JAHBRADOR, right now because maybe I disagree with you on something. I can block out everyone I know who wouldn't agree with me on stuff and only interact with those who do. That's a far bigger issue than someone who is unable to just simply ignore a troll.

in all seriousness you are absolutely correct. People should be allowed to hav their opinions without being pushed into a camp that has been tagged with certain objective morals and beliefs.

Like George Washington said and has been repeated hundreds of times: the 2 party system will be the death of this country.

The older I get the more I realize people who troll or act deliberately rude , are usually just bored , insecure , or sad .

If you wanna make people happy I suggest you develop manners . I think no matter what you tell yourself, you don't wanna be a shitty role model. Others can let things slide but other people who aren't online are gonna see right through your crap and it can and will keep you from things in life .

Look at facebook, twitter, youtube.. you can be censored by an AI algorithm just for saying a specific name.

When weak minded people are given the tools to shape the atmosphere that they engage other people in, it's like a culture shock when they're confronted with opinions that differ from theirs and they react defensively by segregating themselves even more. That's where we get the duality of today's society. Everything's right vs. left, black vs. white, male vs. female, and people just retreat harder into their respective corners when they're presented with something they're unfamiliar with.

These are the results we get when western civilization capitulates to the weakest, least creative, lowest iq parts of society for the sake of hurt feelings.

That's fair, and idk if that's the reason why they left or not. I do know that a lot of people complained about how heavily the moderating became. I became far less active for a while because of that reason. It wasn't even enjoyable to interact on here because anything remotely triggering/trolling/you name it got shut down immediately.

I do want to make a point that this is non-ski gabber, the place for "everything else" that's not ski related. This is where political/cultural/social issues are discussed. So I'd sway towards more freedom, both to express yourself and the freedom to allow yourself to be offended, being allowed here.
NS can do what it wants, it's a private company, and if someone needs to block someone else to maintain their precious feelings then go for it, but know the dangers that come with it.

"But this is NS man" -don't forgot that most of the world is in quarantine. The only interaction with people we regularly have right now is online.

When weak minded people are given the tools to shape the atmosphere that they engage other people in, it's like a culture shock when they're confronted with opinions that differ from theirs and they react defensively by segregating themselves even more. That's where we get the duality of today's society. Everything's right vs. left, black vs. white, male vs. female, and people just retreat harder into their respective corners when they're presented with something they're unfamiliar with.

These are the results we get when western civilization capitulates to the weakest, least creative, lowest iq parts of society for the sake of hurt feelings.

I think Dolan is funny because he is a troll everywhere but gear talk, where he is like a 5 year old kid who is constantly asking "but why though?"

I don't work for newschoolers so I don't have a dog in the fight but I would guess it's less about "maintaining precious feelings" and more about newschoolers' best interest as a business, companies buying advertising space on here don't particularly want their brands associated with a website that allows racial and homophobic slurs..
