Alpine Sole Touring Boots

I have the tecnica cochise boot and I like them a lot.

I got the pinnacle 130's, replaced the strap with a buckle, and added a booster which stiffened them up. I think they ski fantastic. Definitely heavy for a touring boot, but I'm impressed.

Not my case since my alpine boots are pretty f'ed up as is, broken buckles and pivots replaced with screws... It also costs 200USD and probably around 50 to send them all the way to the states from europe. And new boots in tis category here range from 300 to 400e.

But still pretty sick what the guys over at cast are doing.

Yeah I have the same ones from a friend, he didn't quite like them either and the lever broke. Didn't feel really stiff either... Thanks for the input!

Take a look at the Fischer Ranger Free 110-120. I ski the 130 and it's ridiculously light. Grip Walk soles can be replaced with alpine soles as well

Got the nordica strider130 that comes with touring soles but you can buy alpine bases and swap them out. Absolutely incredible boot.

Which bindings do you have on your other setups? Although it generally isn't recommended, you do have a little bit of a wiggle room in fitting WTR/Griwalk soles into bindings that don't have adjustable toe height. As long as your alpine setups don't have Pivots, or the old Attacks I've generally gotten away with it.

In terms of other boots that have swappable soles there's also the Fischer Ranger, Salomon QST line (they actually come with both sets of soles in the box), and Atomic Hawx XTD's.

I know that you can ski with non norm conform boots in older bindings, actually my brother has the Hawx XTDs and used them with some generic nordica ski's with generic marker or nordica binding. Problem is, he came up short on a nice cornice to gap to natural perfect landing and landed uphill-ish. Broke the tail of one ski, pretty sure they would've just released if he hadn't been in the non compatible boots. Sooo I'm trying to avoid that situation.

As for bindings, I have some atomic ffg (2 different models, both non adjustable afd), some older jester demo, the tyrolia aambition (those would be compatible but I don't like the bindings so doesn't really matter), and some generic demo bindings on piste ski's. My brother has some tyrolia peaks on ski's he won't be using much but that also doesn't solve the problem....

Long story short, I thought about it but after the whole breaking a ski in half due to a non-release and actually getting injured myself due to a binding not releasing this season (accidentally overtightened them) I think I'll stick with official binding+boot combo.

Also, do you have a link or product number to the Hawx alpine soles? I had no idea and can't seem to find them. If I can get some through our dealer I might just go with the Hawx since I can get a fair price and it's easier for replacements and warranty claims since I know the guy.

Also did this so I could ski in pivot 15/18s, love the striders but have had issues with the bolt in the back that locks the boot from walk to ski mode. Had a pair of 120s for 100 days or so and the whole rod fell out due to the handle that flips up or down snapping. Then got a pair of 130s and within the first 20 days the little pin that holds the rod in on the bottom snapped. Have been using cotter pins to hold it in place but those too snap and I've had to put 4 or 5 in since January of this season. Luckily it is a cheap fix you can get a bag of them at home depot for a couple $

Guy at the shop told me I have a 104mm last which I found hard to believe. But anyways, anyone know a wider boot? All the ones I find are 99mm or 100mm

What size is your boot?

When looking at posted widths of boots you're mostly seeing widths at 26.5

the older lange XT is... meeeeeh at best.



I've been touring with cochise dyn 130 recently and damn.. damn damn I understand why people want light gear... but for the down.. awesomesauce. we have been riding pretty much refrozen ice every day, until sun really came out, then snow just vanished in a week. I've used the cochise dyn 130 ... probably as much as 40%? of all my skiiing this season, even hitting the park regularly, and the walking mode still lives, the 2020 is supposed to have metal where it was plastic on 2018 and down.



Whats fun up, sucks down, and opposite.

I do this with Lupo Carbons in FKS, Tectons and Kingpins. Works super well but you have to order the DIN soles separately.

I bought some stardard soles when I got my lupo. The kingpin doesn't seem to like non WTR soles. I found I had some weird heel lift with those, so I switch them out somewhat frequently, but I don't think you'd experience that with a shift. If you're looking into lighter, check out the technical zero G. They have done a really good job at making a super light boot that skis like a true alpine boot. Probably going to pick up a pair for next season

Nordica and Fischer have some great boots as others have mentioned.

Roxa R3 130 TI have gained a lot of popularity in recent years. Quite reasonably priced too.

I got the roxa r3 130s, light as hell and perform pretty good

K2 Mindbender boots are a solid choice too, and your local rep should be able to get alpine soles for you. Switched from Dalbello Lupo Carbons and Pro HDs. Yes there is a slightly smaller range of motion but I found the Lupos to be very cumbersome when transitioning. Realistically, there are so many solid boots out there now that you just have to find one that works with your foot.
