Mt. Angel. They have the best hospitality and there is never snow in the host town anyways. It would be perfect. Chopper shots of the abby and hop fields will be beautiful. Have all the events in various places around Oregon. Everyone can be as openly gay as they want to here and we don't have to euthanize any stray dogs or anything

doesn't matter if it was just there, the fact that all ten SLC Olympic venues are still in use currently 18 years later (the sole place thats kept all venues active afaik), when most cities leave theirs to rot should be reason enough. It's a disgusting environmental and economic waste to keep having a dick measuring contest for each olympics of who can make it the biggest and most expensive year after year, only for it to be forgotten about after the games. Just look at Sochi/Rio/etc currently...
not too many people would be stoked on this but as climate change continues to ramp up we need to be honest with ourselves and just pick a winter and a summer venue and continue to use those. It's fucking absurd they picked Beijing for 2022, a region that already has significant water issues, and the ski/snowboard events will be on a mountain that gets ~2" of natural precip....this pic was taken in late January:

I get that using existing infrastructure is good, that's why I mentioned it. I'm just hating on the fanboys from SLC or nearby that are jerking each other off to another olympics. Who the fuck cares anyway.

Yeah I think it should just be on a cycle, have like 5 cities that host Winter Olympics in a rotation. Whis, SLC, Sapporo, Innsbruck, Oslo. Boom done

Calgary's Olympic infrastructure from the 1988 Olympics is still all in use over 30 years later. Not just in use, but many are world-class training facilities like the speed skating track. Althetes from all over the world go to Calgary to train for winter sports.
But I'd still pick SLC for the Olympics simply so Canada doesn't get saddled with the massive costs again. Huge waste of money.

That is a beautiful location TBH. I'm pretty sure all the Calgary and all the Whistler venues are still in regular use. COP has actually expanded quite a bit. They even use the bobsled track in Calgary- you can pay for a bobsled ride. The resort in Sochi seems to be pretty lively too, based on what it looked like in the Traveling Circus episode. For real though, Olympics should straight up be cancelled until countries at least meet current emissions targets and the resources diverted toward climate change action.

SLC/Utah having another olympics is very significant for the local economy, so people who live here should be very interested in the Olympics. Its all but set to be in Utah again in 2030, idk when it will finally get decided but at this point its safe to say it will be happening in utah.
Also never understood “the Olympics was just held there” argument when Beijing gets the contract TWICE in a matter of 2 decades lol.

Boston has both the cultural draw and large enough mountains (Sugarloaf, WV) to present a convincing pitch. Only question is whether there is enough accessible land in the Boston metropolitan area to accommodate the necessary infrastructure.

Winsport has been wildly mismanaging the venues tbh. The luge/Bob/skeleton track was partially demolished this year with no plans to rebuild as well as the ski jump tours being scheduled to be demolished.
COP is great for skiing/snowboarding but absolutely trash for every other winter sports that trains, or used to, train there.
But also fuck the IOC

Bourg St Maurice in France. Within a 40 minute drive you have access to more than 1500km of pisted runs (3 valleys, les arcs, la plagne, Tignes, Val d'isere, La rosier, St foy).
You already have infrastructure for virtually all alpine sports between Val d'isere and Tignes alone. Val d'isere is one of the highest regarded worldcup racing stages, Tignes has hosted Euro X games. There are multiple indoor arenas for skating, curling etc around the resorts. La plagne has an olympic grade bobsleigh track already.
Geneva airport is 2 hours away by road and there is also good links by train already. Lyon Airport is also about 2 hours away, both are decent sized international airports setup to deal with massively increased traffic during the winter months.

curious, by "WV" do you mean waterville? weird two mountains to list-- sugarloaf is dope but much farther from boston, wv is pretty easy to get to but really small

Boston was actually the official US bid for the 2024 summer games, but pulled out due to logistical issues with our shit infrastructure, lack of resources and general public opposition.
I actually think the Winter Olympics could work pretty well in New England tho. There are tons of rinks and ice-facilities around the Boston area and nordic events and skiing could happen in the northern New England states (Killington, Sugarloaf, etc.) which would help with some of the crowd/logistics. I remember being shocked when I found out some of the venues for the Rio Olympics were like hours apart. I'd sort of been under the assumption that everything happens right there, in one area.
Montreal would be sick, Lake Placid would be cool to I think it makes even more sense then slc. Definitely wouldn't mind Switzerland either. All I know is I'm not a fan of asian country's having it mostly for the time difference.
SLC could do it again. All it takes is some infrastructure updates and venue improvements but theyre all still mostly in-use still today, the olympic park is one of the only ones in use in NA still and throughout the world.
Maybe something in Europe, but Whistler was really cool. China still doesnt and wont ever make sense. The IOC must have gotten a ton of money from some chinese oil baron or something lol
