Getting a new ski (haven’t in a while)

Hey NS fam,

Hoping for some help. I’ve been riding the same pair of skis for 5 years and I haven’t been around the new stuff for a while. Looking to buy a new pair of skis for next season.

Stats:
6’1”
195lbs
Mostly ski park (east coast)
Some west trips planned
Might move west next winter

ive been riding Vokyl Walls 185cm which I like a lot but they are skinny, stiff, no rocker, heavier and heavy swing weight.

I want something more playful but not a noodle. Some rocker but not a Vishnu. A bit wider underfoot and good swing weight. Will mostly be skiing rails.

Was looking at the Edollo and Candide 2.0 and open to suggestions and reviews.

If you are skiing these skis really hard then I don’t suggest the 2.0s I had them and they break super easy and if you want them to last more than a year you will have to fix them up a lit

Next seasons CT 2.0 will have metal and rubber underfoot, plus 2.5mm XL edges. It’s also stiffer than the current iteration and it’s SO fun. Definitely not super stiff but stiffer so it’s more stable for sure. Since we’re talking Faction, I love my Prodigy 2.0. It’s a perfect blend of rocker and camber, so it holds a really good edge but also still plays around in the park super well.

ON3P makes fantastic skis if you can afford them, the quality however is 100% worth the price you pay. Check out the Jeffrey 96 or the Magnus skis (heavy detune on these so be mindful of that).

Do your research, test some stuff next winter if you can. check out blister reviews because @patagonialuke and @cydwhit do the most in depth and extensive reviews I’ve ever read in my life, and their reviews have helped me to choose a ski multiple times (don’t go purely off of a review online, but it helps to see what other people think of the ski).

cliff notes: Prodigy 2.0 is real fun and real durable, ON3P Jeffrey 96 is a real good all-mountain ski too. Check out blister for more options!

I think the candides are too beefy for what I want. I’d mostly like a fun rail ski with rocker that isn’t too skinny

I rode bdogs this season, mostly rails. They are a fairly unique shape compared to other skis, specifically in the nose and tails. I'm not a huge fan of them all mountain to be honest. They belong in the park. The flex is real nice, and they are super fun on rails. Just keep in mind of the taper in the tips and tails, they do feel a little different than more traditional park skis.

I’m mostly wanting a rockered park ski that’s fun/ buttery. Bdogs are lighter than Magnus which seem very similar

At 6,1” 195 I think you’ll find the b dogs feel quite small even in the longest length due to how soft they are( am 6 feet 175 and the 180 feels very small to me)

Before the b dogs I had kartel 98s which is the old version of the Jeffrey 96, and I loved those, bit wider , stiffer, so If you have the budget for On3p that’s what I’d go for

From what I’ve seen, aren’t they pretty heavy? How’s the swing weight ?
ON3P seems to basically be sold out

The 102’s are pretty heavy, 90’s are pretty light in comparison. I can’t feel that much of an issue with 2’s 3’s and 5’s. I think the weight is worth it for the durability

What length are you looking at? It’s worth it to size up on ON3P because of the rocker

Just looked it up and they are within 100 grams of eachother, which is remarkable considering how much stronger the ON3P's are vs. the Honey badgers

Do you have any thoughts on the weight of look pivots vs other bindings? I assume it's similar to ON3P's, (a little more heavy but durable)

Pivots are really nice and durable but binding and ski weight matters way less than you think.

volkl revolt 185- 2020 grams
magnus 90 181-1810 grams

I have two pairs of ON3P. I would say they are no heavy then any other ski.

I can recommend edollos 100%. Easy to butter, but you can still do jumps.
