Tried again at the end of the season on a bigger jump and same thing happened... Advice?


edit: it was like 50 degrees out this day was and i felt fine like 10 minutes later just knocked the wind out

you're throwing it too hard and you opened up and panicked at the halfway point

it's only 360 degrees of rotation, you don't have to whip it. just gently dip into it and it'll come around

at the halfway point, you straightened out and tried to react. on a cork 3, you just set it and look for the landing, and stay tucked up. keep your feet wide, *flex your core* and keep your form, and reach for safety is my recommendation. i like to carve into it and think about grabbing safety just as that (right) foot is hitting its highest point

flex that core and get ready for landing gear down

If you had stayed tucked that woulda been a nice cork 5.

I learned cork 3 by first learning lazy boy hand drag cork 3's. I find those to be much easier. You can work up to lazy boy 3s with lazy boy 180s as well.

You can’t use the hips when setting a cork 3 thats one of the secrets. And you also took-off too early. Try keeping you head up and eyes looking forward until just barely after takeoff. Helps with not over-rotating.

Another thing that helped me tons was keep my leading shoulder (in this case left) around my right knee. This prevents you from opening your hips up in order to set the trick. Nobody believes me whenever I say that but if anyones reading this and has a tramp try out that trick if you’re having trouble w the cork 3 it changed my life.

curious to see if other people benefitted too because I see that problem w a lot of cork 3’s and I think thats a fix for a bunch of them

I was also learning cork 3s at the end of this year and I found that almost trying to touch your lead hand on the lip on takeoff and reach for a high safety. This will set the rotation nicely and all you need to do is keep the grab and stay crunches up and you’ll stomp it. Hope this helps!

I'm no cork 3 master but I don't think of it very differently than throwing a 3. I just dipped more and more, and the more times you do it you start to before aware of the axis you're on. Once youre aware of the axis you're on, it's easier to tweak it more and get #corked

Agree with a few comments here, starting with lazy boy makes it a lot easier. Youre gonna want a deeep gorilla steez and carve hard, basically touching your left hand on the lip of the jump. then just STAY CALM in the air, and let it tilt around. sometimes it wont be that corked, and sometimes it might be full lincoln loop like dumont. as long as you dont panic it will almost always come around near your feet. i do one at 2:07 here (blue coat) that illustrates the takeoff pretty well, you can even see me do a small arm waive at 180 cause im scared it wont come around.

dumont is a good person to watch for a casual super corked rotation, but lets face it, none of us will get there, so it can help to watch someone who isnt that good at them too (like me haha)

This is good advice. I would add, just do as many 3s as you can to get really comfortable with them. Gradually start carving on the take off more and more, and grab safety or japan with your 3s. At this point you will likely be going a little off axis anyway, so when you really drop your shoulder for the cork 3 it won't feel much different than what you've been doing.

Take the rest of the season off to reflect on how badly that went.

Honestly if you had just stayed in a ball and not locked your knees out in a panic you might’ve had it. You should practice doing ‘normal’ 3’s on steep lips and landings it kind of forces you into it.

Just tried it on the tramp and it actually helps heaps, cheers. Mellows the rotation out heaps
