How is your state handling COVID-19?

Here in Colorado, our ski resorts were shut down by our governor pretty early. I'm really lucky to have a governor who believes in science instead of a republican. How is it in your state?

Colorado as well. The one thing Polis screwed up on is shutting down the state without telling any of the local cities how it would be handled which led to a bunch of confusion with people driving to the mountains to "Recreate" etc.

Im still going to drive out East to chill in an empty field with a lawnchair though just to get away from the house sometime.Still have chest tightness and cough right now though so I am chillin at the castle for the next 14 days at least. Luckily I got like 80lb of rice and froze about a month supply of eggs plus bread and frozen veggies so I am good to lay low.

Governor Baker has done a pretty good job.

Little late on shutting down the city IMO but acted swiftly once it became apparent that things were about to get bad, fast.

He just said he wants to start a test and trace program which should be the way to minimize the spread even further.

We don't have the outdoor issues like NH, VT, CO, UT, WY, etc. so once he made the decision to shut things down, people just hunkered down.

It's nice to know there are some members of the GOP with some common sense and a belief in science.

I mean my state, Ohio, has a republican and he's doing an excellent job imo, even though I disagree with a lot of the things he does. Tbh I don't think any governors except maybe Texas agree with Trump right now, so politics are besides the point. Our representatives did try to use this pandemic as a way to shut down abortion clinics, who refused and won in court. Smh

We started shutting down earlier than most states, very early on. They made a lot of changes really quickly from public transportation procedures to acquisition of medical supplies. Hospitals have been practicing covid policies well before the shutdown happened. They just FINALLY this week closed the city parks and basketball courts in Columbus, which were getting out of hand.

People in my state in general though I believe are doing a shit job of social distancing. Having your relatives over, definitely breaks those rules despite popular opinion. 6ft rule is a joke for most.

Also when Hobby Lobby, being the trash ass company they are, kept their stores open in states like mine (even though they're not essential, yet tried to claim they are), the AG sent them a letter to cease operations...lol a letter. Fucking go shut them down with law enforcement, with no hesitation or warning. If they can't prove right there why they are essential then they close. This stay at home order is a joke that isn't being taken seriously. We can't be nice about this shit. America is so scared to violate civil liberties, even now.

Utah is doing alright despite tons of people still going out to do stuff. I was almost positive Utah has enacted the stay-at-home order throughout the whole state but its really county by county. Wasatch county where Im located is under the stay-at-home order and neighboring summit county where Park City sits is also under lockdown. It got pretty bad in our areas but they shut down all the resorts way beforehand.

So far gov. Whitmer here in Michigan has been alright, juat following protocols/what others are doing. The one thing I criticize her for is wanting to extent the state of emergency for another 70 days. The republicans of the state legislature took that hard and proposed adding to that one week at a time as the virus is changing so rapidly its hard to look that far ahead. This makes more sense to me since under a state of emergency the government functions very differently where the governor gets more executive rights and agencies can spend pretty much as "needed." Best to only operate this way during an emergency.

Jay Inslee just extended our “stay home stay healthy” mandate until at least May 4. So another month of quarantine. Everything is shut down except essential services, I am telecommuting full time. It’s not the worst thing ever just hard to remember what day it is.

Hes the man for closing the parking lots @Nahant beach near me. Don't have to worry about fat asses in their automobiles I while I rollerblade. I don't like to roll on the path for walkers/joggers too much sand.

That said Rhode Island must pay for this. I feel we should annex them. We used to have Maine but their water is too fucking cold and they are dumb hicks Maine fucking off to be its own state is a good thing good riddance but why not invade/add RI?

I dont hate Trump because he's a republican, I hate him because he's a unethical moron who could have prevented thousands of unnecessary deaths had he listened to scientists or medical professionals. As Masshole said above I've been pretty impressed with Charlie Baker (our republican Govenor) has handled this and I think Republicans like Mitt Romney or John McCain (rip) or hell even Susan Collins, would have handled this situation with more grace and intelligence. Two important qualities when handling crises, neither of which Trump posseses.

If you're still defending our President at this point, YOU'RE the one blinded by party-based politics.

I don't live in a city so I don't really see the impact as much but it's pretty much just grocery, liquor, post office, construction etc.

they're supposed to be turning non-residents away at the park gates (banff) but there are still a ton of calgary fuckos coming to hike and stare at closed shops on banff ave.

I mean if I had to live in calgary I'd probably want to go to the mountains too but don't punish us for your life choices

I was up at mt rushmore the other day to climb a few routes....absolutely deader than a doornail. Creepy almost.

However, every once in a while some family with cali or texas etc plates would drive past. Where the fuck are you people even staying? What the hell are you doing here? All the hotels are shut down in the hills and not a single shop is open. There is one restaurant open in hill city and its to go pizza only. GTFO of here dumbasses. man as recent as 1 week ago we were still having groups of asian tourists walking thru banff with masks on. every store, restaurant and hotel is closed. same questions, what the fuck are you all doing here?

Susan Collins would probably just say she's deeply troubled by COVID-19 but trusts that it'd do the right thing.


But seriously, there have been GOP governors who have handled this well.

Hell, Tom Cotton was screaming hell or high water about COVID-19 back in early January. No one listened to him. He's a GOP senator from Arkansas.

G.W. Bush, back after 9/11, said his biggest fear was a pandemic because he believed we wouldn't be prepared. He was right. We're not.

We're still not handling it well. There are 8(!!!!) state governors who haven't issued a stay-at-home order. They're all GOPers. I get that there are other ways to achieve the goal of people staying at home, but a state-wide, governor-issued, order is the best way.

The deaths of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of innocents, will be on the hands of Trump and state governors who were too slow/failed to issue stay-at-home orders fast enough (Ron DeSantis, I'm looking at you).

In my state, the circumstances are not so good. The number of infected is about 10000. I think soon the pandemic will down. Because the authorities are fighting intensified with it. My family is taken it seriously and we have already bought 3 tests from https://www.confirmbiosciences.com/covid19-instant-coronavirus-test-kit/ for the family: me, wife and daughter. From the first symptoms, we will apply it because the doctors that is very important to treat the COVID at the beginning.

I fricken love Montana's governor. Our limitations aren't too heavy but have certainly reduced the number of cases. Bullock went in early, pulled out all the stops, and helped keep it from ravishing small, rural towns.

State's on the middle of the country that are fucked are kind doing it to themselves. Lucky that even though California is a major transportation hub we're not too bad and lower than michigan and other places.

I feel bad for NY. My family there are all doing alright. None of them are in the city these days at least. Have a bunch of friends there though. Shits rowdy and the numbers aren't good. But they seem to be making the best of it.

The people of British Columbia flatten the curve right off the bat. Provincial and federal parks are closed, but they kept the regional parks open as long no one abuses it. Our entertainment has been shut down, but we have so much forest that we always have a place to unwind.
One of my neighbours got himself tested for covid yesterday. So far he did a great job quarantining.

How many cases have you guys had? I feel like AK is one of, if not the only, state(s) that can actually look around and pinpoint where outbreaks will likely happen given the limited travel in and out of the state...

Alaska has 339 confirmed cases with 9 total deaths (two of which were actually Alaska residents who both contracted the virus and died outside of Alaska) and 209 recoveries.

Upstate NY is doing okay for the most part. It's not as bad in the low-populated areas but it's still bad.

The only problem here is that people don't know how to act during all this and it's definitely evident statewide. People are still hiking in the Adirondacks, but closer to where I live they're having a problem with keeping the mass amount of people away from the hiking trails. Some trails are even closed near me because too many people kept coming and the DEC and the local governments thought it was hard for people to practice social distancing when everyone has to park on the side of the road because the parking lots were overflowing with cars.

Personally I spent most of the quarantine so far hunkered down in my college apt (because landlords wouldn't refund a half semester's worth of rent) and the North Country is definitely handling this a lot better than the rest of the state. People are listening to Cuomo and he's being very proactive in terms of implementing safety measures, but there's still some idiots that are still protesting this lockdown in Albany.

Also it's been weird getting used to wearing a mask while being out in public, and some still feel the need to wear the masks while driving in the safety of their own car which is ridiculous imo.

I think some European cities are doing that as well. They are trying to prevent as much alcohol-related domestic violence.

Ocean City just opened the beaches and boardwalks up, traffic was backed up to cross the bay bridge for miles and miles. That place is already a cesspool now its will be a COVID ridden cesspool.
