Tech bindings for everyday use

I want to finally invest in a backcountry setup and throw tech bindings on my Salomon QST 106's, but I still want to use them at the resort. Would the tech bindings be okay for that kind of use or should I get frame bindings instead.

You should check out our binding system The FreeTour Uppgrade Kit. It allows you to have a alpine binding in the resort or for the downhill and a light tech toe for the uphill. https://casttouring.com/

Can they fit touring soles? I thought I saw news about that recently but can't remember for sure.

Cast has AFDs for WTR, GripWalk and alpine soles, but not ISO 9523 (full rockered touring sole) boots. Shift is a great and super versatile binding. I’ve put mine through everything, from bullet proof ice to knee deep pow and even park skiing and they hold up really well

That is correct. For a binding to accommodate a ISO 9523 touring sole it has to be a tech binding or a alpine binding with a sliding AFD. Cast does not offer a sliding AFD. On that note some ISO 9523 touring soles do work in our WTR AFD. We just advise people that are using that WTR AFD with that sole type to have their bindings tested to make sure it does release in the correct release range.

Would you happen to know any off the top of your head? Like the Scarpa Maestrale RS for example?

This being said, I’m upgrading to CAST this year because I’m a big Pivot guy and metal bindings are the shit. Shift is great for everything, CAST/Pivot is better

I can not legally say that boot will work with the WTR AFD for the above reasons. I know some people on that boot that use our system, but I am not sure how it tested out.

Can never go wrong with Dynafit Rotations or Marker Kingpins. Biggest thing with a tech binding is making sure the shop who mounts them is familiar/works with tech bindings as typically it is essential the mount is done in a precise manner.

The Dynafit Rotations are still my favorite for a crossover binding. They give the most security, while still being a touring binding in weight and functionality.

Iv put my kingpins through flips and pond skims with great success. Like mentioned mounting correctly is vital.

I mean, ultimately it depends on how often youll be touring on them rather than skiing inbounds.

Either way, Ive been pretty damn impressed with both Kingpins and Dynafit Rad 2.0s and Rotations...
