I think the way edges are basically crammed into the side of the skis is cool and also the short fiber reinforced plastics that you see in ski layups and bindings which are in some cases tougher than steel.
now you go...

skithemidwestttIt's like 6 am Dolan.... The other degenerates haven't woken up yet. Shouldn't you be asleep?
little_1337Ive always thought Pivot bindings were a really cool design. People who don't really ski always seem to get a kick out of them when I show them

oldmanskiI would have to say the binding. It has to hold you onto a plank doing Mach 1 through numerous kinds of terrain while not letting go, but let go right before your leg breaks off. Honestly, all the equipment we use is interesting in some sort of way. From the ski, binding, boots, poles, clothing. It all has come a really long way from where it all began.
SuspiciousFishI used to have Marker Piston bindings on my pocket rockets way back in the day. They had this little shock in the middle that helped the ski flex. I always thought it was pretty cool.

hoodratz47Boots as well. When you find that perfect fit. And your skis feel like the are part of your body.
weastcoastBinding screws. How does a tiny ass piece of metal inserted into a relatively soft material put up with so much force time and time again?
also ski flex. Especially on soft skis. Cool how a relatively thick and wide piece of wood, fiberglass ,(and steel) can bend so much and return to normal shape without breaking (most of the time).
MinggI worked in a ski shop with racers and the actual physics behind carving and skiing the ski in general is so cool. The older guys coach so they have this app that slows everything down into mega-mega-mo watching how the ski actually works/responds through a turn and how skill changes that is actually ridiculously complex to my untrained eye.
FyckrI am super facinated/obsessive with the mounting point and weigth of skis. I just find it super interesting that if you add 100gram or move the bindings 3cm the whole ski changes.

DolanReloadedWhats that
DolanReloadedWhere do you mount?
TheMailMansomeone wants a gold name for a month

This helmet, worn by only the most elite skiers
SavageBiffThey’ll change the gold stars to an assorted color of pills 💊 😂
The way line incorporates weed into everything always gives me a kick.
Split boards are Fing dope. A boarder to be able to skin must be so much better than whatever they did before.
DolanReloadedI never understood how a split board could possibly perform as well as a normale board.
like what if you did the same think to skis and split each ski into 2 pieces. It would suck
Ghost_BLandzI like to remove all the buckles from my full tilts in the offseason, put them on my fingers and pretend im edward scissorhands and smack the fuck out of my 7 year old bitch ass neighbours kids when the parents arent looking. The parents never believe them when they rat because I seem super chill and theyll never believe I would smack their kids, let alone put ski boot buckles on my fingers.
DeebieSkeebiesi always found the construction-side of making skis very fascinating; what woods go best for what type of ski and that kinda stuff. There have been a few ski builder threads on here and it would be a fun passion project.
Bindings too, though i know its not that complex of a design.

loshStarted building skis last year cause I thought it'd be an interesting job, and was immediately fascinated by the whole entire process. It's crazy to see a handful of raw materials transform into a pair of skis that you drop cliffs on and smack metal rails.
But I didn't realize how insane tuning is, our main tuner dude was teaching me some shit out of his 25+ years of tuning and blew my mind. Laying specific structure in s base depending on the temperature/snowtype/weather is so crazy to me. Ski tuners deserve way more credit.
SuckleBrickI find the ski it self the most interesting because its the how much its changed with core technology you can get a stiff or soft heavy, light i think its cool how all this stuff gets put tougher you can get a ski to any personal desire
CharlzHubIve been very intrigued by gaper gaps for a while. What is the science behind it? how much faster does a gaper gap make you go?
