Suh Dudes. It's Me, Your Fave Fruit Eating Fashion & Style Icon XKILLA. Call me Chris if ya want. Or XTINA like my Family does. Or Xan Killa. IDC.
But I wanted to Share a Deeply Important Lesson I've Learned Since Blowing My ACL, and The Reason Why I blew my ACL.
---------------------
Patience.
Patience for What?
Patience for your Dreams.
You Rush it. You Lose.
You Try to Control it. You Lose.
-----------------------------
Patience.
To me, also implies Fluidity.
What is Rigid and Stubborn is Sure to be Worn Down and Broken Off over Time. Eroded Away.
What is Fluid and Adaptive is Sure to Roll with the Punches and to Form to its Context. To Flow.
So Why is it Important in this Sport (Wait. This Art!*) to be Patient?
Patience is the Exercise of True Security.
Impatience is the Exercise of True Insecurity.
Being Impatient in your Thoughts and your Behaviors is a Negative Demonstration of your Future.
Impatience is Synonymous with Anxiety, Nervousness, Fear, & Doubt.
It's when You Feel What you Want will NOT be yours unless you ACT! NOW! DO SOMETHING!!
So if you so desire your Desires; Anxiety, Nervousness, Fear, & Doubt Will Prevent your Desires from Actualizing.
This is You getting in YOUR OWN WAY.
This is You SELF-SABOTAGING.
This is You Telling the Universe, "I'm not Ready for Such a Thing."
Why tho?
Simple. The Tao.
The Truth of Life.
The Ebb and Flow.
Your Desires are but like Water.
When you Grab Water, Does it not Drip Out in between your fingers and onto the Ground?
So How can you Hold Water then? (Achieve your Desires*)
Hold Space for them. (Patience)
As if you gently Hold Water by Cupping your Hands.
You Offer But a Place for the Water to Exist as it Chooses.
(You Exercise Understanding for the Nature of the Water.)
(Oppose to Exercising Force upon the Water and its Nature.)
Do not White-Knuckle Control your Desires and Dreams in Skiing. (or Life)
You'll Fail.
You will End up Losing interest, or More Likely you will Injure yourself until You Cannot Ski Park Anymore.
-----------
What are Reasons we are Impatient?
Or rather, for us to Believe we are not going to get what we Desire.
It is because:
-We Love Others More than we Love ourselves.
-We Value the Thoughts and Actions of Others more than We Value the Thoughts and Actions of Ourself.
So We BELIEVE, "SUCCESS IS DEPENDENT ON OUTSIDE VALIDATION."
What can this Look Like.
-Skiing in Ways we Intrinsically Don't feel Genuine about.
This is the Factual Behavior that ruins our Dreams.
Because, What we don't feel Good & Genuine about, We Most Likely will Fail at.
It's Like Math Class.
If you Don't Like Math, but you do it because "You Have To." (For Social Validation)
Then You Probably Won't Flourish in the Subject.
At Best, You'll just Pass.
At Worst You'll Fail.
But Definitely, You'll Waste Your True Potential.
So why are We Limiting Ourselves by Listening to what Other's "Approve" of Us Doing?
(Fear of the Reality of Self.)
So Ask Yourself.
"Is this actually inline with my true desires?"
"Is Skiing My True Desire?"
"Or is a Certain Outward Appearance to Others My Actual Desire?"
It can be just 1.
Or it can be a Little bit of Both.
Your Desires Here can be Fluid though in Nature.
Shifting from One to Another depending on your Experiences and Perspectives.
------------------
What Does Impatience Look Like?
Big Tricks. Overly Complex Tricks. Obsession. Reach Tricks. Blind Hucks.
What do All these have in Common?
High Risk. High Rate of Failure.
What does that Mean?
Disappointment. Injury. Lack of Genuine Fun. (Also Broken Gear.)
So if the Injuries Don't Get you in the LongRun, the Loss of Zest for your Skiing Dreams Will.
I've Seen it.
I've Personally Felt it.
---------------------
Why Choose Patience?
Safe. Fun. Successful. Stylish.
Why Tho?
When we Accept where we are on our journey to our Goals & Desires in Skiing, We Act Accordingly.
When we Don't Accept where we are on our journey to our Goals & Desires in Skiing, We Act Ignorantly.
When we Accept our Position, We are Conscious. We Are AWARE.
When you Ski, Do you not Look where you're Going?
So that you are AWARE of what you need to do NEXT?
Being Aware of where you are in your journey will Tell you Exactly What to Do, and what NOT to do.
Being Aware that your Front Swaps are Sketchy will Tell you, "You're NOT Ready for SuperFeds."
If you Ignore this Warning, The Chances of Failure When trying a SuperFed ARE VERY HIGH.
Being Aware that your 360s are Sketchy will Tell you, "You're NOT Ready for Cork 7s."
If you Ignore this Warning, The Chances of Failure When trying a Cork 7 ARE VERY HIGH.
FAILURE INCLUDES INJURY. PAIN. FRUSTRATION. ANGER. DISAPPOINTMENT.
----------------
Wouldn't You Like to Succeed often?
More than Failing Often?
Then Be Aware of Where You're at in the Journey.
And if you're on a Journey,
The ONLY way to get to your destination Successfully,
Is to put your Left foot in front of your Right Foot.
And then your Right Foot in front of your Left Foot.
If you Worry about Walking 20 feet in front of you, You're Liable to Trip where you're Walking Now.
Are you Not?
So Be Patient.
Do Not Skip Steps.
Baby Steps are Important.
Do Not Under Estimate Baby Steps in Learning Bigger and Bigger Tricks.
If a Bigger Trick Comprises Multiple Techniques in order to Consistently be Successful with the Trick,
Is it Not Wise to have Mastered all the the Techniques before Attempting the Bigger Complex Trick?
So Humble Yourself.
Turn the Ego Off.
Go back to Bare Fundamentals if that is Where Your Abilities Truly Lie.
Relearn Old Techniques to PROVE you Truly Graduated Already.
-------------------
Patiently Stylish.
Many Many, if not ALL, Skiers want to be Stylish Like their OGs.
This is a Beautiful Desire & Goal.
But this can only Be Fulfilled with Patience as Your Foundational Approach.
An Impatient Skier WILL NEVER BE A STYLISH SKIER.
Style Comes From Deep Understanding.
Deep Understanding that Facilitates Effortlessness.
An Impatient Skier will Skip the Necessary Hardwork and Experience needed to become Stylish.
They Desire Quick "Validating" Accomplishments.
They do NOT Desire the Journey to those Accomplishments.
And That is Why They Will Fail.
The Patient Skier is In LOVE with the Process, The Struggle, The Journey.
And Thus his Reward Will be STYLE, SUCCESS, CONSISTENCY, & SAFETY.
When You Love the Process, You understand the Experience.
Just Like when you Truly Love Someone, You Understand Them.
Just Like when you Truly Love Yourself, You Understand Yourself.
And if You Understand yourself, You will Understand what is Meant for you.
And if you Understand What is Meant for You, Then You Will Have what is Meant for You.
So Patience is Key to All Your GOALS & DESIRES.
Shortcuts Will Kill Your Chances.
