At least it wasn't that bad around here this weekend, although I didn't really drive by any of the spots. Def a bunch of kooks posting in a splitboard group I'm in with their shitty insta posts. One guy came up from the bay just to do some mediocre turns, slow af, with a selfie pole and throw in some electronic music. I don't think the instagram community would have survived without such awesome content.

If you search places on instagram for "Berthoud Pass" and "Loveland Pass" you will see people attempting double backflips, hiking in the skin trick, backseat skiing, someone who has never skiied before, and lots of people carrying no avalanche equipment (no backpack).

Great time for it. There's a bunch of good hiking trails where I'm originally from in the adk's in NY. A lady went for an 18mile hike to hit the 3 peaks at Marcy, didn't make it back and required search and rescue to find her and walk her out.
Now I get that you could even get hurt on a .5 mile hike and need assistants. Shit can happen, but it seems like she was trying to be a hero and tell her friends about how awesome she was for hiking it, and pushed too hard. Maybe she could have done it, but she put herself at risk, and when she failed others at risk. Hell I usually look for 12 mile plus hikes when I'm out, and either combo them, or go much longer. I hike fast and cant run anymore so that's as close as I can get. But I wouldn't be even doing a 10 mile hike right now. Hell probably staying much less. So far I did like a 2 mile tops hike up the ridge behind my house because it's right there and nobody is around.
I'm sure plenty of the people ripping around tahoe last weekend didn't have proper gear or any training. Just pow in their eyes and the need to get something for the gram to send back to the bay.
I'm glad it seems everyone's coming out alright, but people really don't give a fuck. Hopefully the avy danger is low over there. That video of all the cars is wild.
