Anyone know anything about straight skis?

Im looking to buy a retro ski to take up to frank like once a year or to deer valley to flex on all of rich tourists. I realize they are all gonna ski like crap compared to modern skis, but it should be fun regardless. Anyone know the names of some older straight skis that were the bees knees back in the day? Something with an outlandish graphic or something with a weird technology that was phased out?

Also sizing? Is it basically body height plus arm straight above the head or is that wrong?

Should have to go without saying but yes, I do plan on using modern bindings haha

I think most deer valley rich ppl would be more butthurt seeing you in a baggy gangsta outfit blowing past them switch on dead center mounted twins.

Length is directly correlated to how cool you are. The longer the better. 210 is where its at, even if you are 5 foot 3.

Last season opening day I saw a guy in his 40s? ripping around like a kid and was even hitting rails with his straight K2s. They were probably 210s.

You can usually fine cheap or free on shopgoodwill.com, goodwill store, let go, and ebay. Throw a look spx on them (since cheap binding with barrow brake possible). Make sure to detune the tips and tails a bit. I didn't and I almost wiped out a few times because of a single run away ski that wouldn't listen to me.

i have two uncles, one of them still calls non-straight skis "cheater skis" and the other still calls them "parabolics"

I took a ladies group lesson this past season and one of the ladies kept calling our newer skis parabolics. She was wearing ancient boots and still had the straight ski technique while using the "new shaped skis" . And there I was with my On3ps haha.
It was also funny watching my Mom check out my skis. Last time she saw a pair of skis they were straights so she was pretty fascinated by the new design. Dad called them trick skis.

one time i was showing my (non-skier) mom my new skis and it was when fat rockered skis were new so i was pointing out those parts and she gave me this puzzled look and was like "wait, skis just recently became wide and curved in the front like a surfboard...?" and i was like yeah idk what to tell ya. she probably thinks skiers are retarded (and she'd be right, generally)

Get any ancient k2 skis they so look sick

if you want to flex get 200cm+. I guess the head yahoo was a rad frestyle ski, have a coworker that will still go rip timberline on his old set. says he was a frestyler in the 70s and 80s and broke skis pretty regularly until he got on those heads and he never broke them so he still rides them. I rembember the K2 5500s were talked up by the Dads around here way way back. I think the Mahre brothers were sponsored by K2 back then and the Mahre bros were basically the bees knees of skiing

They don't. At least not in the way you are used to a ski with sidecut carving.

That is correct. It’s more of a pivot motion. My dad used to kill it with straight skis. He used to call shaped skis “cheater skis” and talk about how “pretty” his skiing was. I finally told him to get with the times, and I taught him how to ski shaped skis.
