this doesn’t sound like trump at all, think aliens got to him? Or robot birds 🧐
DeebieSkeebiesstill living on money from the summer so this'll go a long way. The job search is going to be absolutely cutthroat in the next few months proceeding this thing i feel like.
CaseyJust heard that as a construction worker I am now officially a Wall Street fat cat in the 1 percent and make too much money to qualify. You heard it here first kids stay poor, be lazy and get free shit.

SavageBiffU got this info from where ?
Monsieur_PatateProbably from the rumor mill as nothing is official yet. During the last recession people earning less than $75,000 got the full money, it would likely be slightly higher this time due to inflation, but who knows.
evaroniYeah but you choose to work in construction rather than some lower paying service industry job where you would be more vulnerable in this situation. You have to be thankful you work in an industry where starting wages are higher (work is harder and more demanding) and you can make a great living based on the time and effort you put in. The overtime that is going to be available after this is over will be far more than $2k from the government.
big_tentI feel like I'm getting shafted here. 17, don't turn 18 till late May, and just got laid off work because of this. Not making any money now and parents aren't the type to help me out financially much. Oof.
Sno.The rumor is that the income cap for the full amount will be $75,000 per single individual and $150,000 per married couple. People who make more than this will get a portion but the taper will be small— so probably those who make over $100,000 will get nothing?
So much for “millionaires wont get checks”— apparently making more than $75,000 now qualifies you as a millionaire.
Talks are two checks— one on April 6th and one on May 18th, likely each for $1000, maybe the first for $1500, and $500 per kiddo. We will have to wait and see though.

SavageBiffI won’t come near 100k joint with my wife , and we could live without this $ easily...
If your making 75k+ and cant survive without this little piss check... then u fucked up or are a greedy POS
the people that need it are those who have lost their jobs, the guy from uk stuck in Canada with no job etc...the waitresses at the resort who don’t even ski it’s just their job to feed children... they need it
Sno.Depends on where you live...75k in one part of the country is a lot different than others, and without two months pay 75k becomes 62,500 and about $43,000 after taxes. Also things start to become a lot different for you when you have children. We are losing $3600 in daycare expenses alone for two months (daycare we have to pay for but won’t receive). The paid leave policy they rolled out doesn’t apply to employers with more than 500 employees which just so happens to fuck over both my husband and myself—both over 500 employees. Wtf is with that arbitrary cut off??
The point though, is if you’re not going to provide checks for people over 75k, just say you aren’t providing checks for the middle or upper class. Be honest. Don’t go on TV and say “every American will get one except for millionaires”— that’s just a flat out lie. You're also failing to recognize that almost all people over this threshold had their retirement accounts demolished. In addition, if you truly want the money to stimulate the economy you don’t cut out the middle class.
Its trickle down, too. You give the middle class some money to help cover their losses and they won’t cut out all the money they spend on the service industry.
Can my husband and I afford to go down to one income, while still paying for outrageous daycare that we won’t even be receiving? Nope, sorry, I guess I’m a first class POS. Is $1000 going to fix that? No, not even close.

Dustin. It's amazing to me that even when middle/lower class people get offered free money they complain about it. What is good for these people? Is anything helpful or is everyone else the source of all problems?
SavageBiffI was gonna re edit my post before I read this, butI got involved in some gaming for a minute which gave time for thought...
I basically agree with you %100 , understand I have 3 kids, employees , I’m from Pittsburgh not cheap living but not Beverly Hills that’s for sure. So I have some responsibility.
They should have many factors in determining eligibility , and should prob have different amounts, but there’s probably not time for them to get real detailed, some do need it and needed it yesterday. For instance #of kids, do you have mortgage, rent etc... a job...etc could maybe make starting requirements and maybe have different amounts disperses to different people based on need and qualification.
I def didn’t mean to be insensitive, and maybe 75k is not the number, but in my head I was picturing the truly greedy, primarily wasteful and unappreciative among our our race.
SofaKingSickthe lower and middle class have been getting squeezed more and more over the years and it's possible that this is an event that exposes how fucked it is to have a huge portion of our country (who we rely on) unable to survive missed paychecks that are out of their control
it's not weird that people would be questioning the economic response plan especially when it comes from an administration that is anything but transparent and on the ball. also, they said they're basing this on the 2008 stimulus check plans but $75k in 2008 is about $90k in 2020 so it's hard to take even that reasoning at face value
i'm not taking a position here until it's a set plan and i do my homework but your post sounds like something my hillbilly uncle would write. whoever convinced you that middle/lower class are the problem here is not your friend. and yes, in this case the source of the problem is entirely out of the low-wage workers' control so it's hard to understand why you're vilifying them in this situation

Sno.Also, I think we’re coming from the same place but the cost of living is what factors in. I found a cost of living calculator online that compares city to city and $75,000 in Pittsburgh is equivalent to $162,420 in Seattle.
Dustin. The low wage worker is exactly who I'm concerned about.
as a Libertarian
SofaKingSickyeah you didn't have to tell me you're a libertarian, it's apparent by your belief that the middle class is who burdens the lower class
no one is denying that plenty of people live irresponsibly. and the cutoff limit isn't bad in some cases. i make less than 76 and i am sitting pretty more than most people in this bizarre situation; i don't need the check. but there are so many factors that could make that not the case. if i worked in a different industry i could be straight FUCKED right now and your inability or unwillingness to understand that that's possible beyond workers' control is fueled by straight up nonsense fed to people like you.
millions of these people support the economy and our way of life and get the bare minimum out of it, yet people are still able to convince you that the country owes them nothing in this crazy situation because you know people who buy TVs with money they don't have
i shouldn't have bothered replying anyway. anyone who tells you they're a libertarian and then in the same breath tells you their chief concern is the low wage worker is just so full of shit

Dustin.I think you are missing my biggest concern, which I'm sure is due to a poor rant from me on NS. I'm most concerned about indiscriminate programs like this that give out lots of money to everyone when there is a smaller minority that really really needs it. I don't like seeing lots of people get not enough help when we could make sure the minority gets lots of help. As you said, you and I don't need this at all. But the single mom who's restaurant job just closed by order of local government needs a full paycheck. Why give her $1000 and me you $1000 vs giving her the $2000 she needs to buy food and pay rent. I am very annoyed that there are people around the $75k mark that are complaining about this when I personally don't think they should get anything in the first place.
Are we getting closer or am I still speaking French? You kind of threw out a lot of idealogical points that I'm not trying to argue, but my examples obviously led you that way.

SnickleFrizImma buy a AR-14
Sno.I think you’re missing the point of the cash stimulus which is to stimulate the economy which everyone benefits from indirectly much more than $1000. I read that the bill also provides up to $1542 per employee, per week for employers to offer pay to their employees who are out of work. Additionally many of them will qualify for unemployment and the new paid leave. Additonal
parts of the bills include increasing food stamps and subsidies, and the possibility of freezing rent or mortgage payments for those who cannot pay. Additionally our governor just made evictions/foreclosures illegal for anyone struggling to pay their rent or mortgage. The $1000 per person is *not* the portion of the bill that’s supposed to provide for people’s loss of work (although it certainly helps many)— it’s the part of the bill that’s supposed to prop the economy up a bit and boost morale and decrease fears of spending. The reason the rich are not receiving the checks is not just because they’re rich, it’s because studies have shown they will sock it away, whereas people below a certain income level will immediately pump it back into the economy.

Sno.Here’s the deets being voted on:
Stimulus details for those interested-- this is what is going to be voted on:
$1200 per adult for single filing taxpayers, $2400 per adult for joint filing taxpayers, and $500 per child.
Income cap for the full amounts are $75,000 per individual and $150,000 for joint filing couples.
Amounts for incomes above those thresholds will start to taper off at a rate of $5 per every $100 you make over the threshold.
For low income earners who had no tax liability but income of at least $2500, they will receive $600.
All amounts based on AGI for 2018 taxes. If you didn't file taxes in 2018, it will be based on 2019.
