Replying to What does the Resurrection/Elnour contrast say about our sport?

In any other action sport, when a couple guys who were big news 10 years ago drop an impromptu edit, its means for minor celebration, but certainly doesn't lead to claims that the sport has been revitalized or returned to its "golden era."

For example, when 44-year-old skateboarding legend, Chico Brenes, dropped his "7x7" part a few weeks ago (which, coincidentally, was full of the same tricks he was doing a decade ago...hmmmm) the viewer count came up just short of 85k on the Thrasher YouTube channel. Which, considering their 2+ million subscribers, isn't exactly mind blowing. One commenter on "7x7" said, "Its not super tech, its not super gnarly, but its exactly what everyone wants their skating to look like." It's a comment that could easily be applied to the "Resurrection" video, given Tom and Simon's insane steeze (and yet, I would argue that the skiing in "Resurrection," especially Toms, is super tech. But that's besides the point). The real point here is that nobody said that Brenes' video was returning skateboarding to its "golden era" or that Brenes had arrived to defeat the puny new-wave skaters with their lame ass body varials and sloppy manuals.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm stoked that Tom and Simon made a sick part, but what does it say about skiing that the only thing we want to see are the tricks people were doing 8 years ago?

Meanwhile, Elnour comes out, which, in my meaningless opinion, is an equally amazing feat of skiing (and lets be honest, a lot more work went into it. Its 15 minutes, and spans a litany of shooting locations and builds). And yet the top comment on this benchmark of new wave skiing is "Should have waited a day to drop this." Damn that's cold lmao.

Look, I'm in my early 30's. I get it. I'm going bald, my back hurts, and I miss the seasons of yesteryear.

Skiing is sick and its frustrating to see it get taken over by mumble rap and track pants and lazy shuffles and dudes that are constantly skiing slow and touching the ground. But you can't act like all new wave is shit. Hackel and Magnus are really fucking good skiers, whether you like their style or not. And what about Kimbo and Oliver Karlburg? They fuck with The Bunch, but you could hardly label their style "new wave."

And besides, who would you rather have representing our sport as it inevitably moves into the future? A certain pair of skier/model twins that pose duckface on tik tok?
