I agree. I think anyone who was into freeskiing / newschoolers between 2006-2011 would agree as well.

Golden era tricks were smoother and cleaner, but everyone was kinda the same, not enough creativity. If people didn't start doing taps and going different directions skiing would be stale as hell right now. Only so many perfect spin tricks one can watch before they get boring.

Unpopular opinion for someone older than 25, skiing today>golden era.

Bmack's soulskiing edit from 2011 is still one of my favorite edits because he was doing something different for the time.

All that said, Dumont/wallisch edit was fire.

yes.. yes it was. before every pro had a coach and kids were out at their local hill trying tricks on icy landings and not water ramps or airbags.

I haven’t seen Tom look this smooth in years. I thought he’d gone backwards in park skiing but it appears to be a style decision.

I know it’s about dumont, but the Wallisch smoothness struck me hard.

people will always say that these organizations and air bags etc. help progress the sport but in reality progression was fastest in 1999 - 2004 when nobody knew what they were doing and just hucked their meat lol

I’m so stoked to see Dumont and gold era type skiing in my day and age. Watching Junction133 videos and the old B&E show has always been my favorite style of skiing along with the rest of 2009-2012. However, I also fuck with new wave skiing (to an extent) and I hope both aspects of skiing can still live and coexist and be respected by the ski community.

Super late to the thread but I like new wave for the most part because most new wavers can actually still do impressive looking shit like corks and big ass handrails. But some new wave skiers just make it look like they're trying too hard or that they're acting like they're cool for doing stuff that can barely even be considered a trick.
Still though, I agree with the guy above who said that skiing was getting stale and needed to progress. Overall I think buttering and bouncing down the mountain looks fun asf.
